Trish October 19, 2012 I ordered and received the GE oven heating element. I was successful in removing the old element and installing the new one - I thought. After reinserting the screws and racks, I plugged it in. When I turned the oven on, there was a pop and the breaker blew. Upon disconnecting the power, resetting the breaker and re-connecting the power, the range lights came back on ok. However, why did the breaker blow? Did I not have the wires all the way on the new element? Have I wrecked the element or is it salvagable?
1 Answer Hi Trish, what I would like to do first is make sure you have the right element for your model. If you could supply your complete model number from your oven we can verify the correct part and rule out the possibility of the wrong element being installed. Also, you will need to disconnect the power and take your element out again to inspect the element as well as your wire connections. It's important to have a good wire connection so the wires do not come loose and short to the oven cavity or chassis. Hope this helps! Read More...
