Chris, Your unit has a glow bar ignition and you will need to check the igniter with the oven on to see if there is 120 vac getting to the igniter. If there is 120 vac and the igniter is not glowing then the igniter is faulty and would need to be replaced.

Anna, Unfortunately there is not a way to shut the gas off to the oven only. In order to shut the gas off to the oven you would need to shut the gas off to the entire appliance. You are able to remove the wires and tape them off which will not allow the oven to operate.

Mike for Model Number JGBS12GER5WH

I recently replaced the igniter that went out in my ge stove. It lit and worked normally. After i shut it off, there is a gas smell. Tracked the gas leak to the safety valve. Is it possible that I damaged it with the wrong igniter? I couldn't find one that specifically said it was for my model number, so I got the one that looks the same and came up when i entered my model #. If so do I need a new igniter and gas valve, and what are the part #'s for my model?

Hello Mike. No, it just sounds like the valve is bad and will need to be replaced. The igniter should not damage the valve on the unit.
