Gregory April 22, 2013 for Model Number JGBS20BEA1AD The igniter glows red when the oven is turned on via oven control, but the oven does not lite. I have replace the gas valve and still will not work.
1 Answer Hello Gregory. Test for 3.2-3.6 volts AC at the gas safety valve with the igniter turned on. If the voltage is there, you have a bad safety valve. If the voltage is low, you have a weak igniter and the igniter will need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Wendy April 20, 2013 I have a Magic Chef oven and you have to set it on 315 for baking something at 350 so what part would need to be replaced?
1 Answer Wendy, You will want to check the oven sensor for resistance. At room temperature the oven sensor should read 1090 ohms. If not then the oven sensor is faulty and would need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Gunslinger April 07, 2013 for Model Number GE Gas Range JGBS15PEA2WH You answered a question for someone on the voltage needed at the gas safety valve as 3.2- 3.6 VAC, but said that if voltage is present at the valve when oven is turned on and trying to light, then the safety valve is bad, is this correct? Let me ask, if the oven lights as it should is there or is there not any voltage present at the safety valve. Just confused on this!
1 Answer Hello Gunslinger, You are close but it was not voltage but Amperage. This is a measurement of the current flow at the ignitor and through the gas valve. If the burner ignites, the ignitor and gas valve have the proper current flow and are operating normally. Read More...
Chris March 26, 2013 for Model Number RCA LGB146BEA1AD Gas oven not lighting. Igniter lighting strong. Changed it anyway. Still not lighting. Possibly be the gas safety valve? Thanks a ton..
1 Answer Chris, You will want to check the oven safety valve to ensure that it is getting 3.2 to 3.6 vac when the unit is in bake mode and trying to ignite. If there is voltage there then the valve is bad and needs to be replaced. Read More...
Patrick February 19, 2013 for Model Number JGBS23GEV2WH Can a bad safety valve, damage a brand new igniter? I replaced the igniter, it turn on and went out. There is also a faint smell of gas coming from the oven.
1 Answer Hello Patrick, If you are smelling gas with oven in the off position then you would need to replace the oven safety valve. The safety valve should not cause the ignitor to fail. You will want to check for 120 vac getting to the ignitor to chassis ground to make sure that you have proper voltage. If not proper voltage check wiring to the oven control. Read More...
1 Answer Hello Tim, You will want to check the amp draw on the ignitor. The ignitor can glow but not get enough amp draw to allow safety valve to open. The amp draw should be 3.2 to 3.6 amps. Read More...
Brandi S February 03, 2013 for Model Number JGBP36WEJEWW I recently replaced the electric igniter which worked for a while but now the igniter will glow and the valve opens to release gas but the oven does not light. I have to manually light the oven with a lighter as soon as I hear the gas valve open……this helps eliminate the smell of gas in the house. Does the igniter need to be replaced again?
1 Answer Hello Brandi, You can do an amp draw on the ignitor to make sure that it is getting between 3.0 and 3.6 amps. As long as it is getting proper amp draw it is good. You will also want to make sure that the ignitor is in the path of the gas flow and not out of position. This would cause the unit to not light. Read More...
Leakypropaneguy December 26, 2012 for Model Number RGB526PEA6WH A few days ago when my oven wasn't lighting consitantly, I replaced my ignitor. It solved the problem and now my oven lights in seconds. However, now I have a noticable propane smell inside (and sometimes outside) the oven. I couldn't find the leak anywhere so I got desperate and unwisely held a lighter up the the orafice on the safety valve. With the oven off and the valve supposedly closed, a tiny blue flame lit at the tip of the orafice, so I would assume that's where my smell is coming from. I've never had a propane smell before replacing the ignitor, so I'm wondering if it's possible the problem is related to the ignitor? It just seems like too much of a coincidence for the leak to start the same day I replaced the ignitor. Also if it's not related to the ignitor, can I fix the safety valve or do I need to replace it? I don't think I could have damaged the valve while replacing the ignitor, but if I did maybe it's fixable?
1 Answer Hello LeakyPropaneGuy, It may just be a coincidence that the oven safety valve WB19K31 started leaking but it does need to be replaced. This safety valve can not be repaired and since it is leaking you would want to replace it. Read More...
Uptight August 23, 2012 for Model Number RGB-528PEH-1ww Hotpoint I replaced the inigtion valve and Flame spreader with new parts and the oven lights up but it will not stay on. If I remove the flame spreader, it stays on, so I put the flame spreader back in and it stays lite for ten or twenty minutes and go's out. What is the problem ?
1 Answer Hello. You may have an issue with the thermostat WB20K8 not reading properly and turning off the flame. If so, you will need to replace the thermostat. Read More...
Jack P. August 13, 2012 for Model Number RGB526PEA1WH The oven will not light. The ignitor glows yellow. Wait 2 minutes and nothing. If I turn on a top burner the oven lights. Thanks, Jack
1 Answer Hello Jack, You need to check the amp draw on the ignitor to determine whether you need an ignitor or a gas valve. The ignitor should draw between 3.2 to 3.6 amps. If it does, replace the safety valve WB19K31. If it doesn't, replace the ignitor WB13K21. Read More...
