For Ge Gas Range Oven Safety Valve (Part Number: OEM6068295)

1 Answer

Gas Burner, Did you remember to adjust the safety valve orifice down 2 1/2 to 3 turns clockwise, when you replacd it. If the range is set for LP gas and you did not adjust the orifice down to the LP pin (in the valve) the burner flame will be too large, and will probably produce soot in the oven. Thanks

Hello. The gas valve WB19K31 is set for natural gas. You need to check and amke sure the correct type of gas is being supplied to the valve and if not, adjust for the correct type of gas.

Vewtepos,Your igniter may glow, but it may not produce the correct amperage draw(3.2 to 3.6 amps) or low voltage (3.2 to 3.6 VAC) to the safety valve so it will open. Based on your post, it sounds like you have a weak igniter WB13K21 and need to test it or replace it. Thanks

Hi Charlie. You need to use the volt / ohm meter part # MA-DM1 to check at the safety valve part # WB19K31 for 2.6-3.0 vac while calling for bake. If you have it there you need to replace the safety valve. If the voltage is low you have a weak igniter or bad wire connection. Make sure all connections are tight. Thank You.

We smell gas which seems to be from down around the "pilot lighter" though it is electric. When I turn on the oven, the ingitor glows and soon the gas comes and lights the burner as it should - and it seems to turn off ok also - but there still is a lingering gas smell - I have checked all visable connections with soap bubble solution and not the tinest bubble appears - I suspect the gas to the oven burner is not turning off completely or a leak in that vecinity. There does not seem to be any leaking around the top burners and all work correctly. What do you suggest might be failing or leaking? The safety valve??? Thanks

Hello Dave. Yes, based on the information you provided, if the gas is coming out of the safety valve, you will need to replace the valve WB19K31. It sounds like the seal in the valve has gone bad. Hope this helps.

Vince, It doesn't sound like a safety valve issue, at this point. Have you checked the safety valve orifice for a possible clog, and the air shutter assembly should be 3/4 to full open for proper fuel/air mix and ignition. What about the cooktop burners, do they ignite and burn properly, and is the range supplied with Natural gas or LP Gas ? Let us know, so we can assist you with other reccomendations. Thanks
