Don April 13, 2013 My GE Gas oven quit working today. First the ignitor would glow but would the gas would not flow. The only way to get the gas flowing in the burner was to ignite a top burner. Now nothing happens. Is this an ignitor issues, safety valve, or thermostat problem? Any advice you have is greatly appreciated.
1 Answer Don, It sounds like it could be a bad igniter but you will want to test the system to make sure of the correct part failure. Test for 3.2-3.6 volts AC at the gas safety valve with the igniter turned on. If the voltage is there, you have a bad safety valve. If the voltage is low, you have a weak igniter and the igniter will need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Sandra L April 04, 2013 for Model Number jgbs23weh4ww The oven has no electrical power to it. This happened all at once. My hushand thinks it might be the thermostat. What do you think?
1 Answer Sandra, You can test the thermostat by check across the red and yellow wires for 120 vac. If there is 120 vac then the thermostat is faulty and needs to be replaced. If there is not 120 vac then you would need to check your oven control and bake igniter. Read More...
Kathy P. March 27, 2013 for Model Number rgb524peh4wh The switch I have has two wires on the same side. One is red marked p1 the yellow one is marked 1. Connections on each side. I was told by an agent this is a direct replacement part. Due to wire the changes, can you please send detail instructions. Thank you
1 Answer Hello Kathy, Since thermostats are not polarized, either wire can be connected to either side. The switch will not know the difference. If you hook it up and it is working, you can swap the wires positions and try it again and it will work. As long as the second wire is long enough to reach the terminal to connect it, it will work normally. Read More...

Mike February 02, 2013 for Model Number Jgbs23wel2ww Ge oven will not light. I replaced the igniter today, same issue. I assume the trouble now is thermostat. Before igniter burned out, oven temp was erratic .
1 Answer Hello Mike, You should check your valve control assembly WB19K10044 to see if it has failed. Oven valve should have a resisitance of approximately 1.5 ohms. If it does not have proper ohms or is open then replace. Read More...

Don December 20, 2012 for Model Number JGBS23SEH2SS I have a GE gas range that turns on by itself. I noticed in colder weather it turns on by itself more often. When the oven does turn on it fires up for a few seconds and shuts off by itself. The knob is in the off position. What do I need to repair this problem?
1 Answer Hello Don, You should check your wiring from the thermostat to the ignitor to make sure that the wiring is good and is not completing circuit to ground. If all wiring checks ok then you would want to replace the thermostat WB20K8. Read More...
D.R. November 08, 2012 for Model Number JGBS15GER5WH Hello, In need of thermostat of listed cook stove. Cannot find through model number search. I Have found WB20K8 thermostat with similar model#s (diff generations). Is this the proper thermostat?
1 Answer Hello D.R., yes you are correct. Part# WB20K8 is the right thermostat for your model. Sometimes you can find your model by leaving off the last couple digits, which usually indicate a color. Try searching JGBS15GER and you should get a list of models to choose from. Most of the time the "WH" or color indicator will not show. Thanks! Read More...
Jim S. October 30, 2012 How does one get the burner cover off on a GE XL44 gas range to replace the oven temperature controll or the burner controls valves?
1 Answer Hello Jim, There are normally screws holding the burner cover in place. Just remove cap off burner and remove 2 screws in the cover. For futher information we will need your model number to help you with this. Please post your model number with a new question on the parts page. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/modelnumber_locator.aspx Read More...
Roy July 25, 2012 for Model Number JGBS23BEA2WH The burners on top work and the oven pilot light comes on but the oven does not light, is this the oven yhermostat or what else could it be?
1 Answer Roy, The thermostat is the least likely issue at this point. A weak igniter WB13K21 is the most likely issue at this point. When you start the bake cycle, the igniter should be glowing "white" hot in 60 to 90 seconds. This produces an amp draw of 3.2 to 3.6 amps on the igniter circuit, and 3.2 to 3.6 VAC to the safety valve. When this is achieved, the safety switch opens and the gas is ignited. Based on your post, the igniter is glowing, but not hot enough to open the valve. Thanks Read More...
