The Drain Pump is an OEM part for GE washing machines. It is responsible for removing water from the washer's tub at the end of each wash cycle, ensuring that your laundry is properly drained before the spin cycle. This pump helps to prevent water from sitting in the tub, which can lead to mold and mildew.

Symptoms of a bad Drain Pump include:

  • Water not draining out of the washer, leading to stagnant water pooling in the tub.
  • Unusual noises during the drain cycle, indicating a struggle or failure to operate.
  • The washing machine stopping abruptly before or during the drain phase.

Causes of a bad drain pump can include blockages from small garments or debris, mechanical failure from wear and tear, or electrical issues that affect the pump's power supply.

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Paul, When the unit shuts down you will want to check the inverter on the motor to see if it is flashing. If it flashes 1 second on and 1 second off then it is in the standby mode and is normal and if it flashes every 1/2 second on and off then this is normal running mode. If you can locate your tech sheet it will show you what the flashing represents and what action to take. Also if the unit does not drain then check for clogged drain pump or bad impeller on the pump. If these things check ok then it sounds like a bad main control board.
