Jerry S for Model Number DVL223EAOWW

We bought this dryer used. Looks like it is about 10 years old. It worked fine for about two months but was getting very hot to the touch on top at all temperature selections. I t also left scorch marks on clothes especaily white clothes. Now it does not run at all. It only makes a humming noise. Looks like I get resistance at the timer selectoer switch and the on/off switch. The humming noise comes from the motor from what I can tell. The dryer heat still works. I can turn the drum but it makes some noise. Also sounds like something is almost rolling along with the drum itself. I am wondering if it the "drum slides' I see here or the rear bearing itself. Also how do I get to the parts. I cannot tremove the back. I can remive the top and yhaven't tried to remove the front. Any and all hewlp would be apprecited. Only got $65 invetsed and would be willing to put another $50 to fix it if possble. Thanks again.

Jerry, Hope you haven't damaged the motor ? once you've got the top up, You'll find two 1/4 " screws near the top on the cabinet frame interior, remove those screws, and lean the top mof the panel out, disconnect the door switch wire harness and lift up and out on the front panel. You'll see and inspect the front drum glide/seal assembly attached to the door opening of the front panel WE03X10001 . Once you have the front off, you will need to reach in through the cut out in the front frame and release the drum belt from the idler pulley. You then grasp the drum, and lift up on the back portion of the drum, to disengage the drum bearing shaft from the composite drum bearing WE25X10001 , and slide the drum out of the cabinet. You should vaccuum and dust out the complete interior and all the components, then re assemble the dryer. Thanks and Good Luck

Shay, The noise could be from the idler pulley WE12X83 But, The rear drum bearing could "look" good and make a squeaking noise. You may want to start there first. Good Luck

Matt, Yes, most of the high pitched squealing noise(s) are from the drum bearing assembly WE25M40 on that style dryer. There is the possibility that the idler pulley WE12X83 or the belt WE03X29897 could be making the noise as well, but not likely based on your post. Thanks and Good Luck.

Kathleen, you're correct, all the mounting screws in the bearing kit are "self tapping" screws, it really helps the process. As for the "grounding" strap WE1X1172 , that is installed and mounted, with the rear bearing retainer plate WE1M300 using one of the mounting screws(insert the screw through the opening then mount the strap so the other opening is in contact with the pointed end of the drum bearing shaft, to achieve the gounding effect. You'll do fine, Thanks and Good Luck.

Hello Mike. These are self tapping screws. The holes in the plate are not threaded, the screws will be tight when installed. You do not need to drill out the holes. Hope this helps.

Hello Mike. The manufacturer discontinued both the old parts on the washer and replaced it with this kit. The kit includes all the parts you need to replace the bearing, thanks!

Hello Bob. You will want to hear where the noise is coming from. If you determine it's from the rear you will want to install kit WE25M40. Since you will have the unit apart, you might as well install a new set of slides. You will need two WE03X37318 and two WE03X37317. Also make sure the front bearing WE14M124, where the slides mount to, is not damaged. Hope this helps!
