The Rear Drum Bearing Kit is an OEM replacement part for GE dryers. It is a comprehensive kit that includes both rear drum bearings and necessary mounting hardware. These bearings play a vital role in smoothly rotating the dryer drum during cycles, reducing vibrations and noise.

Symptoms of bad bearings include:

  • Excessive shaking or vibrating during cycles
  • Loud grinding or scraping noises emanating from the rear drum area
  • Difficulty turning or rotating the dryer drum by hand
  • Increased wear and early failure of other components

Causes of bad bearings can include normal wear and tear over time, exposure to excessive loads or unbalanced loads that strained the bearings, or damage from extended use without proper lubrication.

This OEM replacement is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Ge Rear Drum Bearing Kit (Part Number: OEM7857909)

1 Answer

Bill, the idler pulley WE12X83 and the drum bearing WE25M40 both could cause this issue and would need to be inspected. It is not recommended that any grease or lubricant be used as this will attract dust and cause premature failure of either part.

Julian, Unfortunately, we do not currently ship to Canada. If you know someone in the U.S. you could have the part shipped to them and they can ship it to you.

Bob for Model Number DHDSR46GE1WW

I have replaced the front slides and the rear drum bearing plus shaft. The dryer is still making a cyclical chirp/squeak. The noise is coming from the back rear drum bearing area. I did not replace the rear bearing retainer or grounding strap. Could one of those be causing the noise? When I removed the original bearing I noticed wear on the outside of the bearing. Is the bearing supposed to be stationary while the shaft rotates? What do you recommend?

1 Answer

Bob, all parts from the bear kit should be replaced. One of those could be causing the noise. I would also recommend you check your idler pulley and look around to see if you can see the drum scraping some on towards the rear.
