Questions & Answers

For Ge Compressor Start Relay (Part Number: OEM11389533)

Hello Matt, This is impossible to diagnose without more details. I would start by looking at and around the last repair since this is the most logical place to start. Use your test meter at the plug, (with the unit unplugged and the meter set to the lowest resistance scale), since the short will read a very low resistance and when you unplug the responsible component, the short will disappear on the meter.

Refrigerator quit working with no warning-can you help diagnose and fix? In trying to eliminate an unpleasant odor near the unit I vacuumed the backside 'sealed unit' compartment using a shop vac with a crevice tool. The next day both the freezer and refrigerator compartments were not cooling. There is no frost in the unit. The condenser fan seems to work ok. The compressor seems to click on for an instant when the unit is plugged in then it immediately clicks off apparently, IE, does not start and run. My Refrigerator has a part mounted to the left side of the compressor (viewed from the rear) that has the date of May 2009 on it, where an overload relay with start capacitor might be found. Is it likely that you can help me diagnose and fix this problem?

Leo, With the compressor making the clicking sound but not starting then the most likely cause will be the start relay on the compressor.

Hello Erin, They do not have to be replaced at the same time but it is recommended by the manufacturer to replace the overload at the same time as the relay because of electrical and thermal stress on the components.

Paul, If the unit is not defrosting then you will want to check the continuity of the defrost heater and bimetal. If they have continuity then the most likely cause of failure would be the defrost thermistor. This unit does not incorporate a defrost timer but uses the main control board to go into the defrost. It has 4 components of the defrost, the control board, defrost thermistor, defrost heater and limit thermostat/bimetal. The most likely cause of failure will be either the heater or the thermistor.

Hi Rolando. Did you remove the back and see if the electrical connector has simply unhooked itself? If not, you may need the compressor relay assy. part # is WR07X10084. Have you removed a door hinge cover also? There are elect. connections there that will disconnect and stop supply of the fountian controls. Have you tried to test the cord or the outlet for 120vac? The cord is part # WR23X10300.
