This dryer safety thermostat monitors internal temperature and opens the circuit if the unit overheats, protecting the heater and wiring. Replacing a failed thermostat restores proper over-temperature cutoff and safe, consistent drying performance. What it does:

  • Monitors air temperature at the heater/exhaust path
  • Interrupts power to the heating element if temperatures exceed its limit
  • Helps prevent overheating and thermal damage
  • Common symptoms can include: no heat, heat cutting out early or overheating, or the dryer shutting off on high heat
What's included:
  • 1 safety thermostat
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before service; for gas dryers, also shut off the gas supply
  • Typically mounted on the heater housing or exhaust duct; note wire positions and transfer one at a time
  • Secure with existing hardware and ensure tight electrical connections
  • After replacement, clean the lint filter, vent hose, and exhaust duct to ensure proper airflow and prevent repeat overheat trips

Wayne, The heating element WE14X10015 could be the cause of the unit not heating. You will want to do a continuity check on the heating element. No continuity means that it is bad. Also check the thermal fuses and thermostat for continuity. Again, if there is no continuity then the part has failed and will need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Nick, This sounds like you either have a short to ground in the heating circuit or a stuck cycling thermostat. If the thermostat is stuck, it will heat to the high limit thermostat opening temperature which is about 260°F. The best way to tell which is the cause of the issue is if the unit stays hot after you turn it off. This is the indication of a short to ground. If it's cycling up to or about 260°F, the cycling thermostat WE04X10028 has stuck contacts.
