The Dishwasher Shaft Seal is an OEM part for GE dishwashers. This seal is located around the motor shaft and prevents water from leaking out of the dishwasher tub where the motor shaft enters.Seal for pump drain valve shaft. Instruction sheet included. Push-on nut may have to be cut off, order WR2X7054.

Over time, regular use can cause the seal to deteriorate, or debris and mineral deposits can lead to damage. A compromised shaft seal can result in water leaks, potentially causing damage to your kitchen floor and dishwasher components.

Symptoms of a bad dishwasher shaft seal include:

  • Water leaking from the bottom of the dishwasher
  • Puddles or water damage around the dishwasher area
  • Unusual noises coming from the motor area due to water infiltration
  • Visible wear or cracks on the seal

For Ge Shaft Seal (Part Number: OEM6116520)

Harry J for Model Number GSD5330D00WW

I ordered (#7083529) and replaced shaft seal and push-on nut on dishwasher this past weekend. Before repair, the drain valve at solenoid was leaking quite a bit when the solenoid engaged and the water started draining. It did stop after a few moments. After the repair, the drain valve is leaking a very small amount from time to time during the wash cycle and rinse cycle. I don't think it leaks when the solenoid engages. I wet the seal as suggested in video. I made sure the push-on nut was in the proper place around the shaft when I did the repair. I was not sure of how far to push the seal into the hole/shaft. Could I have not pushed it deep enough. What have I done wrong? And what do I do next? I have posted my info re the repair. All positive.

Harry, This issue sounds like it would be caused by the seal where the drain solenoid shaft would go into the housing of the pump. It is possible for there to be a small crack or leak around that seal. It may be necessary to replace the housing of the pump which is part number WD19X10021.

Hello Steve, We do not have information on how to install the parts on the pump. The push nut would have to be pulled off and then seal. Once off replace new. You may need to remove the solenoid to get to the parts to replace.

Hello Merelyn, A solenoid is another name for a coil of wiring used as an electromagnet. The electromagnetic field is used to pull an iron core up into the coil. In the case of a water valve, this force is strong enough to overcome the water pressure and internally open the valve, allowing the water pressure to pass through the valve into the appliance. When the water level is sufficient to satisfy the pressure switch, a set of contacts open which dis-continues the voltage to the coil and the water pressure pushes the water valve closed. The water inlet valve WD10M10 on a dishwasher is behind the kick panel, mounted to the bottom frame of the unit. The first thing you need to do to change it is to turn off the breaker to the dishwasher. The second thing is to verify that the correct breaker has been turned off to prevent electrical shock. The third thing you need to do is turn the water supply to the dishwasher off. This is usually a shut-off valve found under the sink at the hot water supply line to the sink. If the unit was installed properly, the dishwasher will have a separate shut-off from that of the sink. Now you can proceed to remove the kick panel. The water line should be removed from the water valve first since the water line is going to be on the valve tight. If you remove the water valve from the frame of the dishwasher first, it will be too hard to break the water line loose from the valve. Once the water line is off, remove the screws securing the part to the dishwasher frame. Now you can unplug the electrical wire connector and using a pair of needle nosed pliers, remove the water outlet line from the back of the valve. The installation of the new valve is the reverse of the removal instructions. The only difference is that you need to turn the water pressure back on to the valve before re-installing the kick panel. This way you can check for any leaks that may be present. Once all leaks are corrected, reinstall the kick panel. One more note: Before changing the water valve, check the float switch inside the unit. If an item drops from the rack, it can get under the float and prevent the water valve from being energized.
