The Door Recess Spring is an OEM replacement part for GE side-by-side refrigerators. It sits within the icemaker door frame to control movement and allow smooth closing/opening of the access point.

Causes of a bad icemaker door recess spring include wear and tear of thin metal coils repeatedly compressing over many years of filling cycles. Exposure to humidity intrusions from melting ice accumulates oxidation shortening spring elasticity.

Symptoms of a bad icemaker door recess spring include:

  • Difficulty opening and shutting the icemaker access door securely
  • Excessive slamming noise caused by abrupt closing
  • Sagging or improper alignment of the door against the frame
  • Struggles retaining positioning of the transparent plastic doorway

This genuine GE replacement spring is compatible with Hotpoint, RCA and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Ge Door Recess Spring (Part Number: OEM11010474)

Hello Joe. You can look inside the dispenser from under the bottom of the dispenser with a flashlight and see what is broken. If you can not determine if the spring WR02X10585 is broken, you will need to remove the dispenser cover on the front and access the parts that way. There is no need to go from the inside of the freezer. Hope this helps.

Flapper door on ice chute does not close. I assume it is spring or solenoid. Is there anyway to tell without taking door apart? Is there anyway to replace spring (or solenoid) without taking door apart? It appears spring closes door and solenoid opens it. Is that correct? If so, is my problem more likely the spring? The problem is ice buildup in the ice chute due to condensation. Is there anyway to reduce this to manageable level without taking the door off which I would not attempt. Finally, how much would you estimate it would be to have a serviceman replace the solenoid and/or spring. Thanks

Oldchessbook, You most likely have a solenoid problem, But you'll need to dismantle the dispenser assembly to check, This should help you out, " The dispenser assembly consists of the interface, display board, dispenser shield, and duct door functioning parts. The dispenser interface can be removed to access the display board and the dispenser shield mounting screws. The interface is held in place by 4 tabs that hold it to the dispenser recess. To remove the interface, it is necessary to grasp the bottom lip of the interface on either side and gently pull it towards you. There are 3 wire harnesses connected to the display board. Note: The interface and display board are replaced as a complete assembly. When assembling, insert top tabs into the top of dispenser recess fi rst, then snap the bottom into place. The dispenser shield can be removed to access the cradle switch, duct door, duct door solenoid, and dispenser LED lights. The dispenser shield is attached to the dispenser recess with 4 Phillipshead screws. Note: The dispenser LED lights cannot be replaced individually. The dispenser shield and LED lights are replaced as an assembly. Check model number for correct assembly." At this point, you'll have access to the solenoid, spring and flapper, and will be able to determine the issue and repair the unit. Good Luck and Thanks.
