Symptoms of a bad Dispenser Arm Spring include:

  • The dispenser arm not returning to its resting position
  • Difficulty or resistance when using the dispenser
  • Unusual noises during the dispenser operation
  • Inconsistent dispensing of ice or water

Questions & Answers

For Ge Dispenser Arm Spring (Part Number: OEM11987679)

Christine, Once you've removed power to the refrigerator, remove the facade, and the switch bracket assembly, you'll see the flapper door cradle. It's held in place with two retainers and screws, loosen the screw on the left side of the cradle, and remove the screw and retainer from the right side of the cradle. Release the solenoid plunger from the hook on the cradle and slightly turn the cradle and remove it from the recess housing. The "re curved" end of the torsion spring will be inserted into the slot on the left side of the cradle, and the spring portion of the assembly will slip over the end of the cradle shaft. place some light pressure on the "hooked" end of the spring assembly and insert the cradle back into the left side retainer(the hooked end should be against the ceiling of the recessed housing, to maintain tension on the spring and keep the flapper cradle closed) align the hook of the cradle and the plunger solenoid and place the cradle into the right side retainer area and install the retainer and screw. Tighten both screws properly, Reverse the installation of the switch bracket assembly, facade and control board. Restore power to the refrigerator and test the door flapper and dispenser operation.
