The V Belt is an OEM part for GE washing machines. This belt connects the drive motor to the washer's drum, facilitating the rotation of the drum during the wash and spin cycles.

Causes of a bad V belt can include wear and tear from continuous use, stretching, fraying, or snapping due to overloading or improper installation.

Symptoms of a bad V belt include:

  • The washer drum not spinning or agitating
  • Unusual noises, such as squealing or slapping, during operation
  • A burning rubber smell coming from the washer
  • The washer stopping mid-cycle or not completing cycles properly

This OEM GE part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Haiku, Very well could be. Tilt the unit back and check the belt for looseness. Should just have a little play in it.

Brian for Model Number WSM27000DAWWW

Washer goes through rinse and drain cycles just fine, and agitation seems normal, but when it goes to spin cycle, the motor/drive pulley engage, but the belt does not move and the transmission will not move at all. It made a horrible squeaking noise(belt on drive pulley) and eventually smoked before I could shut it off. The belt could use replacing, as the heat cracked part of it, but the transmission will NOT spin at all in spin cycle, even if I reach in and try to help it get started manually. Is it a bearing, or is my transmission toast? Or is it just the belt? I don't mind spending the $58 on a belt, but I'd rather not if the transmission has failed. Thoughts?

Brian, if there is not an item stuck in between the spin basket and outer tub, the failure would be in the transmission WH38X10014.

Hello Renjith, Unplug the machine and access the belt. Spin the idler pulley WH7X115 by hand. If it feels smooth and spins without resistance, without re-installing the belt, re-establish the power to the unit and put it in spin. Now you can listen to the pump WH23X10041. A foreign object can be in the pump touching the impeller. In an instance such as this, the drain pump can still pump out the water, but the item will make more noise than anyone would think. If the pump sounds normal the issue is probably the spin bearing. In this design, the lower spin bearing is made on the transmission, so if the lower spin bearing has failed, it will necessitate the replacement of the transmission assembly WH38X10014.
