This is a burner valve. The purpose of this part is to control the flow of gas to the surface burner. When a gas valve has gone bad, it may become stuck and not work properly. A faulty valve will cause gas to release through the burner. The user may notice that the burner flame flickers or that the burner will not turn to high. If the smell of gas is detected, make sure to turn the gas off immediately. Before replacing this part, make sure to turn the gas off. After the new one is installed, it's important to check for a gas leak. This part is sourced straight from the manufacturer and is sold individually. This particular part is compatible with cooktops that are manufactured by General Electric, including Hotpoint and RCA.

For Ge Burner Valve (Part Number: OEM6071067)

Baffled Duck for Model Number GE JPG389 (Discontinued model)

I have removed (unscrewed) the male to female connector of the valve (Part WB21x5322), that valve being mounted on top the brass rounded portion of part #8 on the same diagram that references valve as part #5. But I can pull the valve assembly out of that part #8. Is there some release mechanism I've overlooked or is the rust on the part just holding it in, and requires more upward force on my ViseGrip to remove it ?? If so, does the new part just insert down into the cavity or is some other technique required to install it ? Thanks!

Baffled Duck, Once you remove the screw from under the manifold, which is part number 8 on the diagram, then the valve should just lift out. If it is rusted then you would want to kind of wiggle it out. You could also try to go from the back and with a small screwdriver tap it out of the manifold.

Ernie, The ignition switch is just a push in connector. It should just pop straight off.
