The Water Valve is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. This valve controls the flow of water to the refrigerator’s ice maker and water dispenser, ensuring a consistent supply of water when needed. It plays a critical role in the efficient functioning of the ice-making and water dispensing systems.

You should replace the water valve if it becomes faulty or damaged. Causes of a bad water valve can include mineral buildup from hard water, electrical issues, or wear and tear from regular use. A malfunctioning valve can lead to disruptions in water flow and the operation of the ice maker and dispenser.

Symptoms of a bad water valve include:

  • No water or ice being dispensed
  • Leaking water from the valve area
  • Ice maker not filling with water
  • Low water pressure from the dispenser

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

For Ge Water Valve (Part Number: OEM11988801)

Steve L for Model Number GE PSS23MSWA SS

Hello and good day to all , , I have an issue with a leak from connectors off the water valve and was just looking for some info on the push connectors into the water valve. There is metal star ring inside that holds on the water supply line. Does a new water valve have them inserted already ? I also have no water to the ice make so at this point it’s easier to replace the water valve to see if that resolves the issue. Thank you and be well - Steve from LI ,NY.

Raymond for Model Number GE PSC25MSTASS

My icemaker was not working, everytime I would connect a water filter it would dump water into the freezer. Turns out it was the inlet valve solenoid for the icemaker. It appears to have siezed. The original part was WR57x10040 but that is retired. After doing some research I purchased WR57x10032 which was supposed to be a drop in replacement but the inlet valve is a different size. WR57x10040 inlet 5/16" and 2 outlets, 5/16" and 1/4" WR57x10032 inlet 1/4" and 2 outlets, 5/16" and 1/4" I can't seem to find one that has a 5/16" inlet for the male compressor nor can I seem to find any adapters. Please help if you can. I am desperate.

Hello Raymond, the replacement water valve as per the manufacturer is WR57x10032, if the old water supply hose connection is 5/16" then it will have to be replaced with one with a 1/4" compression end to accommodate the new valve design. Water supply hoses are available locally at home improvement stores in plumbing isle.

Anngellic, When looking at the back of the refrigerator, the water valve would be on the left-hand side. This water leak would most likely be the water valve that is faulty.

Tom, For this issue the first thing to do would be check the fill tube leading to the icemaker to make sure that it is not frozen. If not then this issue would most likely be an issue with the main control board on the unit.

Duane, Yes, the fill tube freezing is usually due to the fill valve seeping water into the tube and the drips freeze at the end of the tube. Replacing the fill valve WR57X10070 should solve the issue.

Nicole, If there is water coming out of the connection at the bottom of the door then the fill line in the dispenser is frozen. If you have a serial number that starts AF through AM then you could install a dispenser heater kit WR49X10173. With the icemaker not getting ice you will want to check to make sure that there is 120 vac getting to the valve when the icemaker calls for water. If there is then the issue will be a faulty valve. If not then the icemaker would need to be replaced.
