The Water Valve is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. This valve controls the flow of water to the refrigerator’s ice maker and water dispenser, ensuring a consistent supply of water when needed. It plays a critical role in the efficient functioning of the ice-making and water dispensing systems.

You should replace the water valve if it becomes faulty or damaged. Causes of a bad water valve can include mineral buildup from hard water, electrical issues, or wear and tear from regular use. A malfunctioning valve can lead to disruptions in water flow and the operation of the ice maker and dispenser.

Symptoms of a bad water valve include:

  • No water or ice being dispensed
  • Leaking water from the valve area
  • Ice maker not filling with water
  • Low water pressure from the dispenser

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

For Ge Water Valve (Part Number: OEM11988801)

Mike for Model Number PSC25MSWASS

Problem: No water from water dispenser Step 1: disconnected union below freezer door, depressed water switch, no water Step 2: checked water supply to fridge, strong water flow and pressure Step 3: shut off water, disconnected supply line after GE filter canister and control valve. Water supply opened, strong water flow to solenoid valve inlet. Step 4: Electrical Power off, pulled solenoid valve, disconnected water line from solenoid to icemaker/water dispenser, hit side of solenoid with driver handle, reconnected house water supply, and electrical. Pressed water switch, water flow from solenoid restored. (May need to replace solenoid) Step 5, reconnect all, activate door water switch, nothing. Now got water flowing through front union, frozen door water line? Step 6: defrosting front freezer door. Moving on to next item on honeydo list!

Mike, If you had to hit the valve to get it to work then the valve would be the valve that is faulty and would need to replace the valve. For the door issue where the water is frozen in the tube there is 2 ways of correcting. The first is to let it thaw and the second is to replace the door of the unit.

RL, When connecting the water valve connections, it will not make a difference on which one goes on which terminal as this valve is just completing the circuit.

I just installed a Water Valve (#WR57X10070) apparently correctly, but am getting short dribbles out the water dispenser but no continuous flow. I again turn over the water valve at the wall and disconnected to check for any air bubbles, then reconnected it. Still same problem! All connection with the new Water Valve appear correct and tight. And, I can both hear the pump when I turn on the dispenser, and see water in the clear line coming from the Valve to the refrigerator. Any thoughts on why I'm not getting water flow? Thanks Much! Matt

Matt, The most likely cause for no flow of the water dispenser would be an issue with the water filter housing and tube assembly WR17X22072.

I replaced this valve as no water was flowing the into ice maker after I replaced the filter housing. The water dispenser is & was working with good pressure. I checked the voltage to the icemaker valve wire harness plug showed 112-113 v (is that correct)? Do the outlet tubes have to be in for the valves to work, to eject water I mean? Is it a fair test? I know the freezer temperature has to be 0°F for the icemaker solenoid to kick in. I waited 8 hrs & it hasn't. I don't think it's the grommet & fill tube which I tested by passing water from sink faucet & blowing air. I don't think its frozen. How important is the seal on the grommet to refrigerator back wall surface? I had to discard it. I just screwed the metal plate on. What am I doing wrong? Last ditch effort will order new grommet & fill tube.

Hello Prasad, If you forced a cycle and the unit cycled and filled, the issue is the cycling thermostat inside the icemaker assembly. If not, since the voltage to the water valve should be sufficient to open the valve, I would have to say the water valve is the issue. More in depth diagnosis is possible with a model number from the units' I.D. tag.

Hello Pbadal, The ice and the water dispense are two separate circuits. None of the water for ice or dispense is "continuous". The icemaker cycling thermostat closes at about 20°F and cycles the icemaker. If the icemaker contacts operate properly, they will send 120Vac to the side of the water valve used for the icemaker fill. After about 7 seconds, the voltage will cease and the water fill should be complete. This unit has a relay on the main control for the power supply to the icemaker.

Larry A. for Model Number PSH25PGWABV

I have a leak in the pre-fitted hose that goes from my water inlet valve (part#800) to the water flow meter (part#950). It is a pre- bent and shaped hose that I can't find on your parts diagram. I do see a couple of drain hoses listed, however the shapes are completely different and they have a black fitting on one end. My hose is aprox a 1/4 inch and pushes into quick-disconnect push to fit fittings. I could use a regular line, but the hose kinks due to how close the valve is to the flow meter. The hose comes straight down about 4 inches out of the inlet valve into a sharp 90 degree turn back up 4 inches into a 45 degree that goes into the flow meter. Do you know which part I need to order? Or have any suggestions? Currently I have a regular straight line in there but it is kinking, so I have left my water inlet valve hanging out the back.

1 Answer

Larry, the manufacturer does not offer that hose. You should be able to loop the existing hose to keep it from kinking. Hope this helps you.

Hello Clinton, The water valve is a dual valve. One side is for the ice maker and the other is for the water dispense. In light of this information it is easy to see that either can fail without affecting the other side.

Hi Mike. Unless you install the filter bypass plug part # WR17X22064, then it will flow through the tube you desire. It will just continue to deplete the water lines , tank and the ice maker. Thank You.
