Perplexed for Model Number LG WM2277HW

The washer is 13yrs old and needed some upgrading before I tried to sell it. Some years ago it developed a light knocking noise from the tub. It sounds like pecking your fingers on the desk. It only makes the noise during the slow speed such as all of the wash and rinse cycles. When it spins high speed it is quiet as a mouse from dead stop to high speed. It sounds like noise is transmitted from the motor and can be heard from the outer drum. Nothing is rubbing, and I have replaced the bearings, seal, door gasket, spider, motor stator and phase sensor. The noise was there before the rebuild and is exactly the same after. It never made this noise when it was new and for a years after, then one day it just started and has been there ever since. The washer runs and cleans fine. It doesn't seem to affect the performance and doesn't seem to get any worse, but I just can't seem to get rid of this knock. Any ideas? I thought maybe it might be the control board that operates the motor causing it to be noisy, I have replaced about everything else. Thanks

Perplexed, Check the springs that support the drum to make sure that the springs are good. Also check ti make sure that the RPS sensor is fully locked in place and not loose.

Charlotte for Model Number WM2650H*A

The bottom counter weight has pulled off the stars but nothing is broken or damaged. All I see is that maybe to use a larger screw to spread the star for more pressure to keep the counter weight in position. That hardly seems sufficient enough for the spinning and movement the unit does. Is there another solution to keeping the counter weight in position such as using a washer possible? Please advise the correct fix for I wouldn't want to cause any damage since none has been done at this time. Thank you.

1 Answer

Charlotte, You could try a larger screw to spread the stars to hold the counterweight in but it would be recommended if they original screws are not working to replace the tub cover which is the correct repair.

Charlotte, If the screws will not screw back into the counterweight then it will be necessary to replace the tub cover.

Hello Peter, Make sure the springs that support the tub are in the rear-most slots, the struts/shocks are all properly connected and not damaged, and the weight of the machine is equally distributed on all four feet. If these conditions exist and the weights are not loose, the issue is going to be with the spin baskets' installation on the spider.
