The Belt is an OEM replacement part for LG dryers that is responsible for connecting the motor to the drum to allow it to tumble. Over time, dryer belts can stretch, wear out, or even break, leading to a drum that won't turn and clothes that don't dry properly.

Symptoms of a bad Dryer Belt include:

  • The dryer motor running but the drum not turning.
  • A squealing or thumping noise coming from the dryer.
  • The dryer not starting at all.

Causes of failure can include regular wear and tear from the dryer's operation, overloading the dryer beyond its capacity, which puts extra strain on the belt, or a misalignment that causes uneven wear. A damaged belt can prevent your dryer from functioning correctly, leading to inefficiency in drying clothes and potential motor damage due to unnecessary strain.

This OEM LG part can also be used on Kenmore/Sears appliances.

Questions & Answers

For Lg Dryer Belt (Part Number: OEM17918451)

1 Answer

Dan, For this issue you will want to inspect the drum of the unit for a weld at the end having broken. This is the most common cause of the unit making a thumping noise.

Cliff, Based on the information you will want to check the rollers of the unit to ensure that the rollers are not seized. If the rollers have seized it will cause the drum to not turn. If this checks ok then most likely the issue will be with the motor.

E, The belt will go around the motor pulley and then under and over the idler pulley. Should be on the right hand side of the idler pulley.

Paul, Yes, it is most likely a belt issue. It could also be due the environment, is the room heated and air conditioned ? and of course overloading the dryer doesn't help(dryer should be loaded 1/3 to 1/2 way full, maximum).

Hi Charlie, it could be that your rollers 4581EL2002L have failed. You have 2 in the front and 2 in back on your model. Check your drum seal 4036EL3001A and it's always a good idea to check your belt 4400EL2001A, idler pulley 4561EL3002A, and blower wheel 5835EL1002A while your in there. Most of those parts are inexpensive and can save you from having to go into it again for a similar repair. It's not a tough repair job and if you look at the diagrams on our website, they may help you figure it out as you go along. By the way, it's also a good time to look at your lint screen 5231EL1003B to see if it needs replacing and take advantage of our flat rate shipping. Hope this helps!

David N. for Model Number DLG2532W

Thought replacing the belt would help with our situation, unfortunately it did not . When we start the cycle you can hear the motor engage but it is like it just does not have the pull to get the drum rotating. So you physically have to turn the drum and close the door fast enough to get it going, although it is getting worse and worse. Cleaned the whole dryer out and replaced the belt. Cleaned all the wheels and lubed as well. Once started, it's fine, until the next load!
