The Evaporator Fan Motor is an OEM part for LG refrigerators. It is located in the freezer compartment, near the evaporator coil. It works to circulate cold air throughout the refrigerator, ensuring efficient cooling and proper temperature distribution.

Causes of a faulty evaporator fan motor can include regular wear and tear, electrical malfunctions, or physical damage. These factors can result in issues such as insufficient cooling, improper temperature regulation, or unusual noises coming from the refrigerator.

Symptoms of a bad evaporator fan motor may include:

  • Inadequate cooling performance in the refrigerator compartment
  • Freezer section cooling properly while the refrigerator remains warm
  • Unusual noises, such as grinding or rattling, coming from the appliance

This OEM LG part can also be used on Kenmore/Sears appliances.

But If I push the test Button on the Main Control Board the Fan Runs The Lights in the Fridge Come on Is the Main Board the Issue? Befuddled in NJ

Befuddled, Based on the symptoms this issue does sound likely that it would be a main control board issue with the unit.

Hello Vidal. A CO error code indicates an error between the control board and display board in communications. Make sure all wires are good and if so, replace the main control board on the unit. If it continues, then replace the display board as well.

Our refrigerator had a clicking sound from a fan . After researching this problem on your site i disassembled the freezer i found the child frozen over and found the fan in the middle and the fan on the left side both moving freely. I used a hair blower to defrost the coils and changed the Control Board and it seemed to correct this problem. After 2 months I am getting ER RF codes. I researched again and found that the fan is probably the problem and possibly the control board again. Which fan needs to be changed, or do both the fans in the freezer unit have to be changed? Also should any sensors be changed ?

1 Answer

Hello Cletus. The motor should show some resistance. If not, it is bad and will need to be replaced.

Hello Alex, The test used by most technicians is to stop the fan with your finger and see if it starts back up to full speed on its' own. If it has to be bumped to start again or it starts running more slowly that normal, the fan motor is bad and in need of replacement. The control is normally not the issue unless there is no power and/or neutral to the motor.

Hello FF, This would be indicative of the fan motor if you are getting 10vdc at the leads on the fan motor 4681JB1029H. This means that the motor is getting power.
