The Ice Door Solenoid Assembly is an OEM replacement part for LG refrigerators. This assembly controls the opening and closing of the ice door, which allows ice to be dispensed from the freezer to the exterior of the appliance. When you request ice, the solenoid activates, opening the ice door and permitting ice to pass through.

Symptoms of a bad Ice Door Solenoid Assembly include:

  • Ice door not opening or closing properly
  • Failure to dispense ice
  • Ice accumulating or jamming at the dispenser

Causes for a malfunctioning Ice Door Solenoid Assembly can include electrical issues such as faulty wiring, wear and tear from frequent use, or mechanical problems affecting the solenoid's ability to move the ice door.

This OEM LG part is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore models.

For Lg Ice Door Solenoid Assembly (Part Number: OEM15972483)

Alan, If you have replaced the ice maker and water valve already then either the control is not supplying voltage or your fan in the freezer is not running supplying air to the icebox. There are two fans and one is specifically for the icebox.

Chuck, for the door chute to melt, either the solenoid or the door chute heater would need to be continuously receiving voltage, causing heat to occur. This can be caused by a shorted wire that is preventing the main control from being able to open the relays properly, or from the main control failing. Unfortunately, the main control board 6871JB1440A has been discontinued and is no longer available.

I replaced the ice cube door solenoid 6421JB2002R in Jan 2020 when it stopped working. The new solenoid lasted less than 6 months before it stopped working. I checked the voltage to the solenoid (dark blue and red wires at connector) and measured 120VAC when the cube dispense button is pushed. The last solenoid coil measures open continuity and smells burned. Solenoid plunger is stuck in the melted coil. Is this just bad luck with solenoids or could the Dispense PCB (6871JB2061B) be causing a problem? Thanks

Hello Corey, This will most likely be the water valve but can, in some cases, be caused by the icemaker AEQ36756912 itself. You will either need the water valve with the flow meter AJU72992601 or the water valve without the flowmeter MJX41869202.

Paul, Other than the solenoid being loose, this would most likely just be a faulty solenoid that is loose in its casing.

Greg, The first thing you will want to check is to see if the compressor on the unit is running. This issue may be caused by a faulty overload relay.

Hello Richard, This 6421JB2002R is accessed by removing the dispenser cover by disconnecting funnel and button assembly by pulling down and forward. Remove display frame assembly by making a gap between the display frame assembly and door with a flat blade screwdriver or putty knife, (to avoid scratching the front you can wrap the end with electrical tape) and pulling it forward. The cover dispenser is attached with a hook. CAUTION: When replacing the dispenser cover in the reverse order of removal, be careful that the lead wire does not come out and the water tube is not pinched by the dispenser cover.

Hello Eric, I'm sorry but the model number you provided is for a washing machine. We will need you to verify the model number on the units' I.D. tag so we can see what information is available from the manufacturer. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Greg, With the unit not dispensing ice and the motor not turning then the auger motor would be the most likely cause for failure.
