The Magnetron Thermostat is an OEM part for LG microwaves and built-in ranges. Its primary function is to monitor the temperature and ensure that it remains within a safe operating range. If the temperature exceeds the preset limit, the thermostat will interrupt the power supply to the magnetron, preventing overheating and potential damage.

Causes of a faulty magnetron thermostat can include electrical malfunctions, component failures, or physical damage. These factors can result in issues such as erratic heating, microwave not heating properly, or the appliance shutting off unexpectedly.

Symptoms of a bad magnetron thermostat may include:

  • Microwave not heating food evenly or at all
  • Inconsistent or weak heating performance
  • Microwave shutting off or displaying error codes related to temperature issues

This OEM LG part can also be used on Kenmore/Sears appliances.

Chief, the power control board EBR57124701 would need to be tested at connection CN10 for AC voltage. There should be 24-35 Volts when testing from pin 2 to pin 3 and from pin 3 to pin 4. There should also be 3.4 to 4.6 Volts when measuring from pin 5 to pin 6. If voltage is not present, the power control has failed. If voltage is present, the main control EBR52349505 would be the most likely cause of failure.

Chief, with access to the back of the range, the bake element MEE36593201 would need to be tested for 240VAC when the unit is set to bake. If voltage is present but the element does not heat, the bake element would need to be replaced. If voltage is not present, the oven relay control EBR60938302 would be the likely cause of failure.

An F1 error code indicates a key short. You would need to check the keypad and then the main control.

Doug, This issue would most likely be caused by a faulty control board but would suggest testing the sensor at 350 degrees which should have a resistance reading of 1654. If this good then the control board will be the issue. If it is off then it would be a faulty sensor.

Martin, This issue would most likely be a faulty oven sensor or the wiring between the sensor and the control board. Check the sensor for a resistance of 1090 ohms at room temperature. If the resistance is bad then the sensor would need to be replaced.

Carolyn Braun for Model Number LRE30451SW/SB/ST

I have had this range for many years and just this past weekend it began "popping the breaker" when the oven was preheating. The stove top works and the oven (so far) seems to work once it is fully preheated. I checked the terminal block and power cord as was recommended on a "google search." Both appear to be fine. My electrician (without coming over to look) said it sounds like the heating element in the oven needs replacing. Does this sound right, and if so, can you recommend the right part number?

1 Answer

Carolyn, Check to make sure that the there is no issue with the wiring to the element and if there is not then the element would be the issue and is part number MEE36593201.

Spadesman, Based on the information provided I would start by testing the oven temperature probe and the elements. If these are good then it would likely be a control issue.

Bruce, You will want to double-check the wiring to make sure that everything is connected properly and that there are no damaged wires. If the wiring is good it sounds as though you may have received a faulty board.
