The Water Inlet Valve is an OEM part for LG refrigerators. It controls the flow of water into the refrigerator for the icemaker and water dispenser, ensuring a consistent supply for ice production and chilled water.

Common causes of failure include sediment buildup, electrical issues, or damage from freezing. A malfunctioning valve can disrupt the water supply, affecting both the icemaker and water dispenser functions.

Symptoms of a bad Water Inlet Valve include:

  • No water or ice production
  • Slow filling of the ice tray or water dispenser
  • Leaks or puddles around the refrigerator
  • Unusual noises when the water dispenser is activated

This OEM LG part is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore.

Gerry for Model Number LG Model LFX25960ST Refrigerator

Last week I E-mailed LG to ask for its suggested replacement for my LG LFX25960ST refrigerator's broken water inlet valve since the original part number (5220JB2009A) is no longer available. The next day they replied that the substitute replacement part number is 5221JB2006K. I have looked at that part online and there is no way it will work with my refrigerator without an adapter kit for both the electric and water. Does the part come with such adapters or is there that an additional adapter kit which I also must order? If so, what is its part number? (I asked an LG support team member the same questions but she had no answer).

Hello Charles, If the ice maker stops making ice, the issue can be the ice maker, the water inlet valve, or the temperature in the freezer compartment is over 20°F. If the ice maker has ice in it, the ice maker is the issue. If the ice maker is empty, the water valve or the ice maker is the issue. You see, if the ice maker isn't filling, the internal switch in the ice maker that powers the water valve could be defective. You can cycle the ice maker and test at the water valve to see if it is sending voltage to it, or in some cases, when the ice maker cycles, the water valve will actually make a humming noise even if it cannot open to allow the water fill to take place. The most probabler cause is the water valve 5221JB2006K.

Hi BoBo. Use a volt/ohm meter part #@ MA-DM1 to assist you in your diagnostics. We will send the closest service manual we have . Start at page 17 for ice maker test. Page 24 and 25 for diagnostic mode. The water valve is given voltage in pulses. The main control board is part # 6871JB1280P. The water valve may be defective part # 5221JB2006K. Ohm The water valve coils and see if the winding is shorted to the metal frame. Are there any fault codes showing ? Find the supplied tech sheet in the controls or in the toe grill plate. Thank You.

Hi J. It is not a hard task to replace this water valve. Remove the back cover. Then remove the screws that mount the water valve. Whether you remove the electrical connectors or the water tubing first, just remove one at a time and install it where it goes on the new one. The water valve has compression type holders that need to be pressed inward towards the water valve body as then you pull out the tubing. Make sure the tubing is pushed all the way into the valve or it will not seal. Water valve part # 5221JB2006K. Thank You.
