Questions & Answers

For Samsung Range Oven Hot Surface Igniter Assembly (Part Number: OEM17903178)

Pat, with access to the back panel (which will be removed for testing) and the gas supply turned off, the ignitor wire connector would need to be accessed so that it can be tested for voltage. With the oven set to bake, the ignitor should receive 120VAC when testing from wire to wire. If it is receiving 120VAC and the igniter is not glowing, the igniter has failed and would need to be replaced. If there is not 120VAC, the next step would be to test from one of the wires to the chassis of the oven for 120VAC. If there is voltage, then it is likely that the safety valve. The same can be done with the broil igniter. If there is not voltage at any point, the oven sensor would need to be tested for resistance as it should measure 1080O at room temperature. If the sensor tests properly, and the igniters did not receive voltage in any test, then the failure would be in the main control. For the most accurate information regarding part numbers, the REV number for this model would be necessary.

When I try to go start my oven on bake. It will not pre-heat to 350. I have to put it on boil and let it get really hot and then quickly change it to bake and sometimes it will start to pre-heat to 350 and work but there are times it won't . What do you think is causing this problem? I also have one burner that doesn't just start when you turn the knob. I have to use matches or a lighter to start this burner. What do I need to replace for the burner to work?

Dan, testing the safety valve would be testing for amperage. Amperage should indeed read between 3.2 to 3.6 amps.

Ed, You will want to check to see if the igniter on the bake is coming on. If it is then test at the oven safety valve for 3.2 to 3.6 vac and if there is proper voltage then the valve is faulty. If there is not proper power then the igniter would be the issue.
