Both issues are most likely related. The most common cause would be faulty/failing door switches. All three need to be replaced at the same time. Thankfully this part DE96-00414A has all three.

Hello Al, You can get to some through the air grille and some you access through the control board opening. Still others have to be removed from the installation to disassemble in order to access the light. I'm sorry but without the model number from the units' I.D. tag, we cannot say the exact procedure to access the light since there are so many configurations. Hello L.W.W., You will need to remove the air grille above the door to access the cooking compartment lamp by removing two screws threaded from the top edge toward the floor. This will allow you to access the lamp through this opening. Be sure to unplug the unit first to avoid getting a shock.

David, Unfortunately there would not be a brighter light for the cooktop other than what is originally on the unit. You do not want to use a higher wattage bulb.
