For Whirlpool Washer Electronic Control Board (Part Number: OEM18017400)

Andy for Model Number MAV5920EWW

After recent power failure, all the lights flashing when powered up and then subsequently every 20 seconds or so. When trying ANY cycle, it works for about 20 seconds then stops abruptly and all lights flash. When entering service mode, it reports Service Code "01 Power Failure Detected". Tried to follow the procedure of clearing the error code and got my 2 beeps to indicate that it was supposedly cleared but a few seconds later lights were flashing again. Ordered a replacement control board, installed it and to my surprise getting exactly the same problem with flashing lights reporting exactly the same error code "01 Power Failure Detected" for the brand NEW board. Any idea what could be wrong here? Thank you.

Andy, This will most likely be an issue with the control panel of the unit with the lights flashing and showing a power failure issue but also check the wiring to the unit to ensure that the voltage is not dropping with a load on it. If it is dropping power then the issue will be with the home supply.

After some power outages I noticed that all 14 lights on the electronic dial were lit up. I unplugged machine and plugged back it. I started regular wash and it started filling. After about 15 seconds all the lights on dial came back on. The machine continued filling and then did nothing. I unplugged it again and plugged it back in. This time is started agitating but never advanced to spin. Every time I unplug machine and plug it back in I can change cycle by turning dial, but then after about 15 seconds all the lights are back on and cycles do not advance. I did one load by unplugging and replugging 6 times, What tests or parts do I need?

Hi Denise. You need to change the control board part # WP21002238. Do not touch the board while changing out. Ground yourself out a few times to remove any static you have. Use gloves and touch the board on the corners only. Thank You.

Leaann, A couple of things you want to check, unplug the power cord, remove the control panel back plate and disconnect the air tube that is attached to the water level switch WPY2201474 and blow in it, to make sure there are no clogs, kinks, or twists. You should also find the technical data sheet and diagnostic test information inside as well. You will most likely need the control board WP21002238 but the issue could also be in the encoder switch 37001266 and you will need a multimeter and the tech data sheet to run the circuit and voltage tests. You may want to consider repalcing both parts at the same time, most servicers do. Thanks and Good Luck

Hello Lucas. Here are the instructions from the manufacture for testing the control board. Hope this helps. Rotate the Cycle Selector Knob to the “Power Off” position and press knob. (All LED’s will be off). Rotate the Cycle Selector Knob clockwise past “Power Off” twice and stop at “Regular”. (LED’s will illuminate as the knob is rotated). Rotate the Cycle Selector Knob counterclockwise one revolution back to “Regular” and press knob. • Power Off, Rinse & Spin LED will blink (if error codes are present). Regular LED will be illuminated. • Model I.D. is displayed by the LED’s around the bottom of the dial. • Model I.D. can be redisplayed while in Service Mode by setting knob to “Handwash” and pressing. • Refer to chart for Model I.D. Enter Service Mode then set Cycle Selection Knob to “Regular” and press knob. • Fill and Wash LED’s illuminate. Hot water fill. • Press knob Fill and Rinse LED’s illuminate. Cold water fill. • Press knob Fill, Wash, and Rinse LED’s illuminate. Selected wash temperature fill. • Press knob Wash LED illuminates. Slow agitation. • Press knob Wash LED blinking. Fast agitation. • Press knob Spin LED illuminates. Slow spin. • Press knob Spin LED blinking. Fast spin. • Press Knob Complete LED illuminates. • Press knob exit back to Service Mode. NOTE: Fills are skipped if Pressure Switch is satisfied. Press knob until Pause LED begins blinking to pause cycle.
