I.C. Rhodes, It is not necessary to lubricate them but you could use any type of silicone grease to do this.

Hello Martha, This is normally caused by old fabric softener that has accumulated under the agitator. When the fabric softener ages, it decomposes, causing a change in color and it will stain clothes. To correct the issue, remove the agitator and clean the inside of it with a bottle brush and hot white vinegar. If you do not wish to do this, you can always replace the agitator. If you post a new question including the model number from your units' I.D. tag, we can advise you of the part number that will fit in the unit in your home. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Joseph for Model Number 110-82692120

I recently purchased several replacement parts from you guys for my ancient Kenmore 110 series washer. After installing a new trans, pump, clutch assembly, lid switch, inlet valve, dogs, agitator and basket springs, I am still having an issue between cycles. The washer during the rinse cycle makes a loud grinding noise (basket doesn't move, should begin to rotate). We have to disengage the rinse cycle and then reengage it before it starts to rotate and the noise stops. It empties fine, and spins out fine, but the basket doesn't start to rotate (as it should) during the emptying/ rinse cycle until we disengage/reengage. It is at that point when the noise stops also. I've bypassed the lid switch, thinking that it might be faulty, but the washer still did not correct until I stopped and restarted. Any idea what this is?

Joseph, it is recommended that the drive brake W10820043 is inspected for any signs of it seizing up or for any burs along the brake contact plate that may cause the brake to not release properly during a spin. If there are no signs of either of these occurrences, then it would be likely that the timer 388296 (unfortunately, the manufacturer has discontinued this item) is not pausing long enough for the neutral transmission to switch between agitate and spin properly.

Needhelpfixingit, grease 350849 would be used on the new thrust washer in a small amount. The video found at the link https://www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-medium-cam-agitator-285811-ap3138838.html#autoplay can be used to assist with identifying the thrust washer, as well as the light coat of grease used.

Matt S for Model Number 11028902790

I replenished the transmission fluid, replaced the base assembly, the basket drive, the transmission clutch, the outer tub seal, and the entire inner basket., the agitator dogs. A lot of work, but the machine was 20 years old and needed a bit of help. I reassembled and after about 8 loads of laundry, I am starting to hear a medium-to-high-pitch squeal coming from the machine. I was wondering if there is some grease that I needed to add. I assumed that the base, which had the bearings and seals already installed from the factory, would be greased. Any ideas where I should look or what I should do to troubleshoot/correct this squeal? Thanks, Matt

1 Answer

Hello Matt, the base glides are self-lubricating, no grease needed, you did not say if noise occurs all time, or just in agitation or just in spin. A high pitch squeal is caused by a rotating part. At this point, you would need to remove the front cabinet and determine when the noise occurs and from what area.
