The Belt is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool dryers that is responsible for connecting the motor to the drum to allow it to tumble. Over time, dryer belts can stretch, wear out, or even break, leading to a drum that won't turn and clothes that don't dry properly. Length: 93 3/8" Width: 3/8" has 5 ridges.

Symptoms of a bad Dryer Belt include:

  • The dryer motor running but the drum not turning.
  • A squealing or thumping noise coming from the dryer.
  • The dryer not starting at all.

Causes of failure can include regular wear and tear from the dryer's operation, overloading the dryer beyond its capacity, which puts extra strain on the belt, or a misalignment that causes uneven wear.

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Frank, In most cases when a dryer will start with a smaller load but not a larger, this would be caused by a weak motor in which it cannot turn the heavier load. You would also want to check the rollers on the unit to ensure that there is no damage to them.

Frank, To find out if the motor is good you would test for 120 vac to the motor. If there is 120 vac to the motor then the motor would be faulty. If not then check the thermal fuse and door switch for continuity.

Hello Dave. The roller may be loose or tight, and will make noise when it is bad. Also, they get flat spots on them. Some idler pulleys do have play in them. If they are bad, they will make noise as well.

Hello Mike, This does sound like you have damage to your belt WP40111201. You may also need to replace the drum rollers WP37001042 or the idler puller WP37001287. This is because it is not common for the belt to break unless something inside the unit opposing the drums rotation caused the belt to be damaged. Be sure to assemble dry and clean the sticky from dryer sheets off of the roller shafts with a paper towel.
