The Belt is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool dryers that is responsible for connecting the motor to the drum to allow it to tumble. Over time, dryer belts can stretch, wear out, or even break, leading to a drum that won't turn and clothes that don't dry properly. Length: 93 3/8" Width: 3/8" has 5 ridges.

Symptoms of a bad Dryer Belt include:

  • The dryer motor running but the drum not turning.
  • A squealing or thumping noise coming from the dryer.
  • The dryer not starting at all.

Chris for Model Number Admiral heavy duty super capacity dryer

So far I have it apart and the drum out. The pulley on the motor has come off and it looks like it was screwed onto the motor shaft. The inside of the pulley has what look like stripped out threads.It has part number (?) 754305 on the end that looks like a nut. The other end looks like a bowl with a hole in the middle and I'd guess that goes toward the motor but I don't know. It was laying on the bottom of the dryer. I need to know if it is actually supposed to be threaded on or not. I have checked the rollers in the back and they both turn pretty freely assuming they have bushings and not bearings. If they have rolling bearings then they probably need replacement as well. What say you? I'm going to do some major vacuuming before I reassemble. The dryer is at least 12 years old and has been amazingly trouble free.

Hello Chris. No, that is part of the motor. If it is bad, you will need to replace the motor.

Dianne, You will want to check the rollers on the unit to make sure that they are rolling properly and not seizing up.

Hello Bobbie, You have to use the belt listed by the manufacturer for the drum to turn at the correct RPM. If you use a different belt it will not be the exact length and the drum will either spin too fast or too slow which will cause an incorrect tumble, severely impairing the units' ability to dry the clothes properly.

Jerry, There are 2 components other than the thermostats which would cause the heating element not to work. First is the motor and second the timer. The best option is to disconnect the power to the unit and access the heating element. Disconnect one wire that is going to the heating element, preferably the one on the thermostat side. Plug the unit back up and using a multimeter you will want to turn the dryer on and test for 120 vac at the terminal on the heater where the wire was disconnected. What this will do is eliminate the heater element itself and the motor. If there is 120 vac at this point then you know the heater is good and the motor is good because the other 120 vac coming through the thermostats is the timer side of the circuit. If there is not 120 vac at that point then you will want to test the other terminal on the heater and check for 120 vac. If there is not 120 vac then the motor would be bad and if there is 120 vac then the heater would be the issue. If there is 120 vac at each point then the heater is faulty.

Lou, Typically when clothes are turning into a ball in the dryer would be caused by overloading of the unit. As far as rubber burning smell, if the unit is overloaded you will want to check the belt to see if there is any damage to it. Both issues can be caused by overloading but a belt that is slipping could also cause this issue.
