The Belt is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool dryers that is responsible for connecting the motor to the drum to allow it to tumble. Over time, dryer belts can stretch, wear out, or even break, leading to a drum that won't turn and clothes that don't dry properly. Length: 93 3/8" Width: 3/8" has 5 ridges.

Symptoms of a bad Dryer Belt include:

  • The dryer motor running but the drum not turning.
  • A squealing or thumping noise coming from the dryer.
  • The dryer not starting at all.

Causes of failure can include regular wear and tear from the dryer's operation, overloading the dryer beyond its capacity, which puts extra strain on the belt, or a misalignment that causes uneven wear.

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Dryer Belt (Part Number: OEM18027387)

1 Answer

Hello Mike, This sounds like someone has changed the belt and has installed the wrong one. This will prevent the drum from turning at the proper speed, impairing the units' ability to tumble the clothes properly. If the belt has never been changed, the voltage supply to the unit should be checked at the terminal block. If it is correct, the voltage to the motor should be checked and if it is below 120Vac, the cause of the voltage drop will have to be located to correct the issue. If the voltage is correct, the motor bearings should be checked.

Dan Q. for Model Number ALG643RBW Amana

My drier shrieked, loud high-pitched squeak, for months until it finally stopped on a heavy towel load. I replaced the drum dryer glides & felt pads. Now I will replace the dryer belt (heavily worn) and dryer belt tension pulley assembly (belt tension pulley is broken). 1. What else should I do now that the dryer is apart? The drum support rollers seem OK; I will add a few drops of Three-in-One Oil. Should I oil the motor? Anything else? I will vacuum in there... 2. How can I put it all back together? I am worried I may not be able to thread the belt around the motor and tension pulley, then around the drum. There seems to be no room to work, with the drum in place and the top back on. THANKS!!! (I am a newbie at all this.)

Ronnie B. for Model Number MDE3706AYW

The dryer started squeaking every time it was turned on. I replaced both rollers and it was quiet for twenty minutes while it was running. Now the noise is back and I know this dryer very well after taking off the front panel inner panel belt and drum. I replaced the idler and the belt then put the dryer back together. After twenty minutes the dryer started squeaking again. Does the felt have anything to do with this noise? Could the bearings on the motor be bad? Any clue as to what to do to fix this problem once and for all?

Hello Ronnie. You will need to check the front glides WP37001298 and make sure they are in good shape. If they are worn, they will need to be replaced. If the felt seal WP37001132 is worn, it can cause the unit to make noise as well. Hope this helps.

Hello Ehrich. You will need to check the idler pulley WPY54414 and the rollers WP37001042 on the unit and make sure they are not tight. If they are tight, they will need to be replaced. Hope this helps.

Hello Terry. It's possible that the belt could just be old and has stretched. I would probably replace the belt, idler pulley which is part number WP37001287 and the spring part number WP56076. Hope this helps..

Hello Shirley. You will need to remove the front panel to access this. It sounds like the front belt your talking about, is actually the front seal. WP37001132 The dryer only has one belt on it. You will need to replace the seal. Hope this helps.

Hello. Usually the belt does not ride in a grove, just around the drum. When you install the belt, trun the drum slowly to align it up. Hope this helps.
