The Control Board is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. It manages and coordinates various functions of the refrigerator, including temperature regulation, defrost cycles, and the operation of fans and compressors.

Causes of a bad control board can include electrical surges, exposure to moisture, or component failures over time. A faulty control board can disrupt the refrigerator's ability to maintain the correct temperature, leading to food spoilage and inefficient operation.

Symptoms of a bad control board include:

  • Inconsistent temperatures within the refrigerator
  • The refrigerator not cooling or freezing properly
  • The unit not responding to temperature adjustments
  • Display or control panel malfunctions

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Dave for Model Number MZF34X16DW00

Hi, I've had this freezer and have replaced the thermistor after a technician told me that's what it was. Then 8 months later, it was doing the same thing (ice build up over the evaporative coils). So, I thought maybe he had a bad thermistor, so I changed it again (after defrosting). It seems it works after defroting but within 7-8 months it will frost over again. I've checked the heating defrost element and it is OK. Note: the freezer is in my garage in California where my garage ranges are: lowest 45 in winter and 105 in summer.

Dave, if the defrost drain tube is not getting clogged up, the door may need to be checked for any indications of frost on the liner around where it seals. If there is frost, the door may have had an air leak (from a partial door close) that could cause this issue. However, if there is not frost along the liner, the next step would be to ensure the defrost sensor is seated on the larger copper tube of the evaporator. From there, the unit would need to be checked to identify if the compressor is operating excessively when the evaporator is not blocked up with ice. If it is not, it is possible that the defrost thermistor may have failed and it can be tested for resistance. If the reading shows open or infinite, the thermistor WPW10383615 has failed.

Hi, Woke up in morning to find out Freezer is off and GFI tripped. I reset GFI and it tripped again. I tried to plug another item into that outlet and trips again, so I replaced GFI with a new one to rule that problem out. I took apart the front cover and noticed everything froze up. I let it thaw/dry all day and re-plugged it at night and everything turned on like supposed to. The compressor kicked on right away and started getting cold. I set it in recommended mode. I've been checking it since, and it keeps throwing it into power freeze mode (3Green Lights). Every time I change it back to normal, several minutes later it's back into power freeze mode and the freezer is way too cold. I tried to hold the setting button for 3 seconds to turn it off. Took like 3-4 tries and it went off. Then I couldn't turn it on until I unplugged and plugged power and tried a few times and was able to turn on the cooling again. Seems like it runs nonstop when it keeps throwing it into power freeze mode. Could it be the control board? Thanks.

Dave, if the defrost drain is not clogged and there is not an air leak in the door gasket, the control W11382529 would be the cause of failure based on the information provided.

Hello Dave, yes the readings are within range, the door should close and the gasket seal correctly to the cabinet, also check the evap thermistor is secure to the evap coils.

Dave, based on the information provided, it sounds like the evaporator thermistor WPW10383615 is causing the defrost cycle to cut out early.

Dave, This sounds like you have a bad thermistor if the resistance is 7.5K at 32 degrees. You can verify this by putting the unit into a service diagnostic mode and check to see if it passes the diagnostic test.

Mike for Model Number WZF34X16DW01

HELLO APP!! We have a Whirlpool WZF34X16DW01 Stand alone freezer and while away for a week, we had a power outage. Came home and the freezer was off....lost everything. After throwing all the food away, plugged the freezer back in and 24 hrs later was still warm?? Seemed to be running fine. So I unplugged the freezer for another day, plugged back in and same scenario. I went the control board to turn off the cooling feature (in hopes to maybe rest set 'something') and the LED's turned off as they were supposed to do. Now, they will not turn back on after doing the 3 second hold button deal.... Is this just a control board issue? Or because of the power failure/surge there may be more involved? I've repaired my other Ref/Freezer ice maker in another unit we have with y'all so I'm capable. Thank you for your time and have a great day! Best, Mike

Mike, the unit not turning back on would certainly be a failure in the control W11382529. However, it sounds like the compressor was running before the control would not turn back on. If this is the case, there is a sealed system failure as well which would require an EPA certified technician to repair it.

WillCojj, With the unit not going into defrost on its own then yes, the control W11382529 would be the most likely cause for this issue.
