Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Electronic Control Board (Part Number: OEM18049074)

Jay, with the power supply cord unplugged, the touchpad WPW10207928 can be tested for continuity from ribbon pin 7 to ribbon pin 15. If there is continuity when the bake button is in the same position (pressed or unpressed) as the broil button (ribbon pin 13 to ribbon pin 14), the failure would be in the main control WPW10177195.

Ron for Model Number GW397LXUQ07

Back in December 2018 the switch membrane was replaced after the timer and bake buttons stopped working. After three months, the same buttons stopped working again, and the repair service replaced the membrane again, only to have EVERYTHING stop working (except the range top itself). Next, they replaced the control unit (October 2019) and that fixed the problem. Now, once again, the timer and bake functions are not working. I don't care to deal with a repair service again. Should I replace the switch membrane again, the control module, or both? Is this high failure rate normal for this model stove?

Hello Ron, not sure what your question is, if you are looking for the cause of the part failure the service technician is usually the best person to ask as he can see the part and the appliance firsthand. Some of the more common causes are, an oven door not fully closing or sealing and oven heat getting to the control parts located above the oven door, excessive cleaning with an ammonia-based cleaner, repeat liquid spills occurring when using the cooktop as examples. We being only an appliance parts dealer the switch membrane for your model is WPW10207930. The range manufacturer's Customer Service is probably who you would need to contact if you have concerns about the service history of your range.

Martha, For your issue, you will want to test or replace the Key Pad Assembly WPW10207928. The control panel is subjected to heat from the cooktop and the oven, as well as cleaning chemicals, and usage. This can cause the key pad circuits to become erratic and fail.
