For Whirlpool Power Cord (With Strain Relief) (Part Number: OEM17965572)

Justin for Model Number WTW5105HW0

I have a whirlpool washer I am having trouble with. I had a comforter bed sheet washing and the washer kept filling with water and eventually overflowed and got into the control panel area and all over the floor in the house. The washer was turned off, unplugged, and brought outside. The back panel is taken off. The hoses were taken off of the tub and the tub drained out. The lid top was still locked down. Took off the washer top and manually got the lid lock undone and lid on the washer opened to get numbers so I can write and ask a question. After letting the washer sit for a while and dry out, I plugged it in and the display control panel for the washer does not come on, all the washer does on the display screen is kind of light up and make a crackling sound, stops for few seconds then does it again. It continues to keep doing that. I am pretty sure something got burnt up, but I am wanting to try to check to see how much damage was done so I don't replace good parts that do not need to be replaced. Also, I am trying to get the unit operational again if possible, and see if there are more problems with the washer on why it just keeps filling up. I am thinking the main control board got messed up. I know how to check to make sure power is coming into the main board, but are there other points on board that I could see if there is power coming out of it to see for sure if the main board is bad? Also is there a way I can check the main board to see if power is coming out of the area where the wire plugs into it and feeds to the display board? Lastly is there a way I can somehow check the display board to see if that got damaged and needs to be replaced? Thanks so much for your time and I hope you can help point me in the right direction to be able to check stuff out and see what is bad and what I need to order and replace.

Justin, let's try to simplify this as much as we can. The washer overflowing is caused by a hole or clog in the pressure line WP353244, the control board W11543997, or a failed water valve W11165546. I would check the pressure hose and water valve. To check the valve attach water lines and no power. If you turn the water on and it comes into the washer the valve has failed. If they are good you need to replace the control. We already know the control currently has output as the display does react some. So only replace the display after you verify the control is good and you still have an issue. Hope this gets you what you need.

Tony, The information would indicate you probably had and off-balanced load " has 3 towels in it (so not overloaded) It made a bang and shut off.". The "bang" was probably the tub shifting to one side, and in turn may have damaged or disconnected the wiring harness, removing power to the controls. You'll want to remove the power and "flip" up the control panel and check for any broken, damaged or loose connections. Then remove the cabinet and check the wiring to the lid switch and the switch itself. Also, check and make sure the "skid plate" pads on the bottom of the tub and the top of the base assembly haven't dislodged or "locked up" and holding the tub in the wrong position.

Hi I have a Whirlpool top load washer and it does not do anything. After a little inspection I noticed that one terminal on the white 3 pin Molex plug of the main power cord is burned. This is the side of the power cord that is underneath the control panel. I used a jumper wire to see if the washer would work and it does work fine. Only about 1/4" of the power wire is melted. The plug on the washer side is a little burnt as well. Is it safe to just re-pin the wires and install new Molex plugs?? I use the same type of Molex plugs at my job and have the proper tools to crimp on new pins. Did the connector burn because of a poor connection between the pins? Your help is greatly appreciated. Mike

George, There is a slight chance the issue could be the motor 285811, but it's more likely to be a timer WP3946430. In short, the timer controls the direction of the motor rotation by reversing the polarity in the motor windings, if the motor runs in one direction, it should run in the other, if the timer contacts are operating properly. Most top load WP washers are designed to drain the tub, then spin the tub. This reduces the wear and tear on the spin tube bearings, so this is a normal occurrence and no need for concern, at this point. Instead of replacing just the "dogs" you may find it more beneficial to replace the Cam Kit 285811 in the agitator, it'll give you a more substantial repair outcome.
