The Damper Control Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. It plays a critical role in maintaining the balance between freezer and refrigerator temperatures.

Common causes of a bad damper control assembly include electrical malfunctions, physical damage to the damper, or wear and tear from regular use. Over time, the motor or the damper flap can fail, leading to improper air regulation.

Symptoms of a bad damper control assembly include:

  • Inconsistent temperatures between the freezer and refrigerator compartments
  • The refrigerator being too warm or too cold
  • Frost buildup in the refrigerator compartment
  • The damper making unusual noises or not moving as it should

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hello Bruce. WPW10503278 is the defrost timer for the model number you provided. It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Richard, With the fuses having been replaced and showing 88 on the display, try hitting cancel and try to clear. If this does not work then the issue would most likely be caused by a faulty control board.

Kim, The issue with the ice building up on the freezer floor would be caused by a clogged drain. You will want to pull the rear wall from the freezer and clean out the ice under the evaporator in the drain trough and flush with hot water. You will also want to install part number W10619951. For the issue of it getting too cold in the refrigerator section you will want to check to make sure that the damper is not stuck open.

Chris, With the freezer being the same temp as the refrigerator you will want to pull the rear cover in the freezer compartment and check for a full even frost pattern. If the frost pattern is only partial, such as only the top couple of rows of coils have frost or just a little frost on the line coming in, then there is a sealed system type of issue.

Ester for Model Number amana abb1922few3

Only 3 years old! :( Had to repair, defrost 3 times at an average $300. 1st time only 2 weeks out of warranty. Cost me 950 new!! Will be on 4th time now I had ice built up on floor of freezer & water leaking onto floor/ I pulled back panel , the drain hole, heater element had ice bultt up & thin amount on fins. Melted it all but next day ice built up on coils. The freezer temp ranges to 10 below 0 & also in the normal freezer range. The frig stays in safe frig range on the frig/freezer thermometer I put in there.OK. ? Is there a simple pc/freezer diagnostic test one can punch in or is it necessary to take apart each component & do the continuity test on each one? Does the mother board & or is the defrost control board the most work & skill to get at? Is it necessary to take apart the fan & motor to get at it? Thank you!!! :) Ester

Mike, The defrost thermostat is part of the evaporator wire harness W11260592. You will need to order and replace the harness. There are no other "thermostats" in your refrigerator, your's has thermistors that work in sequence with the electronic control board.
