This shock absorber mounts between the washer tub and cabinet base to control movement during agitation and spin. Replacing a worn damper restores stability, reducing vibration and noise for smoother, more reliable cycles.

  • Cushions and limits tub movement to absorb vibration during spin
  • Helps prevent banging, "walking," and excessive shaking
  • Supports proper balance so the washer can reach and maintain full spin speed
  • Common symptoms of failure: loud thumping, unbalanced/no-spin interruptions, machine moving across the floor
What's included: One shock absorber. Install notes:
  • Disconnect power and turn off water before servicing
  • Access shocks per model; support the tub to relieve load before removal
  • Reuse existing mounting hardware if applicable; tighten all fasteners securely
  • After replacement, level the washer and run a rinse/spin test; consider replacing shocks as a set for even damping

Jim for Model Number mah8700aww

Just picked up a used set and vibration is pretty bad. Did not have the bolts for moving and did need to lay it down to get into the truck (moved it standing up). When unloaded I would say vibration is 'ok' but when loaded it will shake and even walk. Has the pedestal and is level, also has extra pads on the feet. The floor is not great because the dryer next to it will vibrate when washer is on spin. would a rubber/foam type mat on the floor help absorb the motion? Is there a reasonable way to inspect the shocks instead of just buying new ones? does this machine have 'smarts' to load balance? Thanks

Jim, While the unit does try to redistribute the laundry, if the floor is shaking during a normal wash then the issue will be more with the flooring. If the unit is on a wood floor then you will need to try to reinforce the flooring as this will really be the only way to correct the issue. Also make sure that the springs are in place at the top of the tub.

Hello Jerry. The best way to locate the problem is remove the back access panel and watch the unit run and look for the banging problem. This way you can inspect the shock and see if they are bad.

Hello Attila, This sounds like the spinner assembly may be separating from the spin basket (AP4336951).

Hello Bill. It sounds like the shocks are good on the unit. I would remove them and inspect them to be sure though. If they are good, then the bearings may be the issue and the outer tub assembly will need to be replaced on the unit.

Jim D. for Model Number Maytag Washer MAH8700AWW

Our washer is about 7 years old. It started making a lot of noise and we called a tech in to look at it. He said we needed to replace the rear drum bearing and assembly. He quoted $550 for the job. I decided to tackle this myself and I replaced the assembly yesterday. We think it is still noisy and it shakes more than before it got noisy (say, about a month ago or more). What I want to know is should I replace the four dampers that support the outer tub to settle this thing down? I will definitely be pulling it out again later this week to recheck for any loose bolts, nuts, etc. If I do that, I will replace any other parts that need replacement at that time. Also, while I am at it, should I replace the drive belt? I don't want to waste money on this, but it would be nice to have some piece of mind for the next five years or so. Thanks, Jim D.

Hello Jim. I would check and see if the shocks are cracked or broken on the unit and if not, I would look to see if anything is loose. Also, make sure the shaft on the inner basket is not worn and needs to be replaced.

Dennis, You'll have to access the front dampers from the front of the washer. Remove the top, control panel, dispenser, and front panel. We'll send you some information that should help you out. Thanks
