This drive belt links the dishwasher's motor to the pump so the machine can circulate wash water and drain properly. Replacing a worn or broken belt restores wash action and helps eliminate slipping or squealing during cycles.

  • Transfers motor power to the pump for water circulation and draining
  • Common fix for no wash action or poor cleaning
  • Can address squealing/chirping noises or a burning rubber smell
  • Replaces belts that are cracked, frayed, stretched, or glazed
What's included: One drive belt Installation notes:
  • Disconnect power and turn off the water supply before servicing
  • Remove the lower access/toe panel to reach the motor and pump area
  • Note belt routing; rotate the old belt off the pulleys and install the new belt the same way
  • Check pulley alignment and hand-rotate to seat the belt before running a test cycle

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Dishwasher Drive Belt (Pump Drive) (Part Number: OEM13118685)

Dave for Model Number wu282

Maytag d/w belt stopped rotating. Belt is fine. At 1st, I could not rotate belt pulleys by hand. I tried again later with much more force, and within a couple minutes, I got the belt to turn manually. I started the d/w and it seems to cycle OK, although it seems to be quite a bit louder while cycling. Please give your opinion as to whether it is OK run, and does the belt need belt lube or do the pulleys need some type of wd-40 treatment. Thanks so much for your answer(s) and hopefully they will save my marriage for another year or two. Dave

1 Answer

Hello Dave, the bearing in the pump assembly (901459) is likely seizing and is no longer available. Drive belts should never be lubricated, WD40 is actually a water-displacing fluid, its lubricating ability is temporary.

Ann, Apply the silicone grease to the inside of the belt surface, turn the pulley slowly/carefully by hand two or three revolutions so the grease is distributed on both the pump and motor pulleys. Make sure you install the kickplate and access panels before you run the motor.

Michelle, The "purple type belt" is not from your dishwasher. Whirlpool dishwashers are "direct drive" products, and wouldn't have a belt. You're probably looking at a seal from a plastic container cover or a large jar or something similar.

Ruth Symons for Model Number Maytag LWC202

I've seen many people ask the question about whether the new replacement pump belt for various Maytag models will fit, and the answer is invariable yes, 6-9021150 will fit all including my LWC202. However, I have been struggling for the last three hours to get it on, with no success. I attach it first to the motor pulley and then stretch, but barely get it to a point where it will touch the pump pulley front side and it definitely won't stretch enough to walk it in the groove to the point just opposite the motor pulley, where it could walk itself the rest of the way. I've used a screw driver to try to walk it around, and it is simply too rigid and tight. And this was with two people who are fairly mechanical. Any other suggestions? As others have mentioned, the original belt was about 27 inches as compared to this one at just over 25. You don't have a round, clear 26 or 27 by 1/4 inch belt? I'm truly stymied.

1 Answer

Ruth, This is the correct part number for the belt, once you get the belt to the pulley then you will want to hold the belt against the pulley and turn the pulley to get the belt to slip on.

DZ, It's easiest to leave the belt dry, and slip the belt onto the motor pulley and stretch it onto the pump pulley, there's slightly more room to work with. Once the belt is on both pulleys and you've rotated the belt a couple of times, then apply all the silicone grease to the belt and rotate the belt by hand. Put the kickplate in position and turn the dishwasher to a drain cycle so the lubricant can be evenly distributed.

Paula, There would not be any type of belt inside the dishwasher. Most likely the part that you found would have come from the lid of one of the dishes that was in the unit.
