Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Dishwasher Thermal Fuse Kit (Part Number: OEM9535773)

1 Answer

Tony, The thermal fuse would not be the issue with the unit, if it was faulty then the unit would not have any lights on at all. The most likely cause for this issue would be a faulty control board.

Hello Ed. Make sure the door switches are good. If so, you will need to order and replace the control panel on the unit. The fuse is good.

Dan for Model Number KUD01-FL-BL

I have a follow-up questions about replacing the wire harness with the fuse. I've seen that the harness needs to be replaced with the fuse or the fuse will blow soon. My question is WHY? It doesn't make sense to me. The original fuse didn't have a separate harness, and it doesn't seem that the harness makes any difference electrically anyway. If someone understands this, please explain (do not just restate that the harness needs to be replaced). Thanks!

1 Answer

Dan, The harness has to be changed as the manufacturers engineers redesigned the part and was included due to safety issues that could arise by not putting the wire on. It is most likely because of connection issues. with the original harness that was shooting the fuse.

Dishwasher was not drying properly, then stopped running completely. I did a reset and it ran again once, now the rinse only is blinking. If I cut off the power and then turn it back on it has a "2" on the display and goes thru what sounds like a cancel/drain cycle, then back to rinse only flashing. The heating element and thermostat show continuity, the thermal fuse also shows continuity but appears to have been scorched, it also won't reset again.

1 Answer

Bob, The issue is in the control panel / key pad assembly WP8269464 . there's a faulty key pad circuit causing the control to remain in the rinse cycle. When you reset the control, it will operate one time. once it sees the faulty circuit again, the board will revert back to the failed mode. Once you replace the console, and reset the control, you should be fine.

Tony, Unfortunately, No there is no reset circuits or switch. But you're on track, if you're sure you have 120 VAC to the dishwasher in the junction box, then the next step is to access the thermal fuse in the control console and check the fuse 8193762 for a "closed" circuit. You can also check for voltage in and out of the fuse, if you wish.
