Joe September 22, 2020 for Model Number CT17A2W The drinks in the refrigerator are freezing solid. I checked for continuity in the temperature controller and it does register on all settings except off, so I believe that is good. I also tested the temperature controller with the sensor bulb in ice water and got the same type of readings. Plus, I verified that the fan is also working. The freezer damper is just a manual damper and is clear and set as factory recommended. Any ideas?
1 Answer Hello Joe, replace the cold control thermostat 61005789, it is likely gone out of spec. Read More...
Michael March 14, 2020 for Model Number 596.72013017 Thank you so much for the quick response. After I go through those steps, and nothing defrosts in the freezer does that mean the defrost coil is bad or is it the circuit board. Thanks again!
1 Answer Michael, It would be recommended to test the defrost heater for the resistance of between 10 and 21 ohms. If the resistance checks ok then the heater is good. Then test the defrost thermostat for continuity. If there is continuity then the thermostat is good and no continuity would be bad and the thermostat would need to be replaced. If both of these items check good then the control will be the issue with the unit. Read More...
Michael March 13, 2020 for Model Number 596.72013017 Coils keep icing over inside the freezer. Can’t find the defrost timer to force a defrost to see if the defrost coil is heating at all. Looking for help locating the defrost timer or other solutions. Thanks
1 Answer Hello Michael, This unit has an electronic control that acts as the defrost control WPW10317076. The procedure for forced defrost is as follows as per the tech sheet: Forced Defrost Mode: The forced defrost function is performed using the Freezer display and Refrigerator keypad. Enter the Forced Defrost Mode by performing the following sequence of events: 1. Press and hold the Door Alarm Keypad. 2. Press and hold Refrigerator Temperature DOWN /- Keypad. 3. Release the Door Alarm Keypad and wait 3 seconds. Fd appears in the Freezer display. 4. Press the Refrigerator Temperature DOWN /- Keypad again. Sh appears in the right display. 5. Press again to force defrost Fd and Sh will flash in the display indicating the unit is in defrost. Read More...
Bonnie July 01, 2017 for Model Number MSD2456GE The Drier on my fridge was completely encased in ice. Is there supposed to be any kind of insulation around the drier?
1 Answer Hello Bonnie! No there isn't suppose to be any kind of insulation around the drier. From your description of your current issue, it sounds like some sort of sealed system failure and you'll need a licensed technician to locate the error. Thank you! Read More...

Mike January 31, 2017 for Model Number WRF990SLAM00 I am replacing the refrigerator side evaporator and adding a service port at the compressor to evacuate and charge. Is it customary/advised to replace the drier with each repair? The unit was manufactured in late 2012.
Carl C. June 21, 2014 for Model Number WCF20/E B1 I have a Crosley brand upright freezer, and the drain freezes up on it. Every 2-3 months, I have to manually thaw out the coils inside the freezer. It seems that the drain freezes up, and then water collects in the bottom, and it freezes. When I thaw it out, the drain hose is clear. What is causing it to freeze up?
1 Answer Hello Carl, The drain opening in the bottom of the unit is squared off from the manufacturer. This was identified as the cause of the drain freezing. The fix is to use silicone sealant to make this opening "funnel shaped" so water cannot collect and freeze in the flat area of the opening. When you do this it is imperative that you do not get any silicone in the opening but only around the edges of the opening. One tip: When spreading the silicone around the opening, spit on your finger before touching the silicone so you can shape it into the funnel shape. This will make the silicone form better and prevent the silicone from sticking to your fingers. Read More...
Andrew May 15, 2014 for Model Number maytag MTB1955AR Thank you for your answer and here is another question. I checked on the seals and condenser and looks nice, I'll bet my compressor is inefficient, 1- how much watts should it needs to work in new condition? 2- in case my fridge use much less watts new what other compressor do you recommend me, maybe in this days are more efficient compressors than 17 years ago?
1 Answer Hello Andrew. If you look on the model number tag, the watts should be listed or it may be as amps in which you could convert. There is not any better compressor we can recommend other than the manufacturer replacement. Thanks. Read More...
Andrew May 14, 2014 for Model Number maytag MTB1955AR My refrigerator is 17 years old in excellent condition, the only problem has been the condenser fan that got dirty inside and stopped so I replaced it and no more problem. Even though, I noticed that in running condition, it consumes 270 watts or 2.5 amp and I think that brand new, until several years later, it consumed like 180 watts. Am I wrong or can the filter, compressor, capacitor make it more power hungry?
1 Answer Hello Andrew, The two most common thing that cause a refrigerator use more energy are the condenser coils being stopped up with lint and torn and/or damaged door seals. The only other thing that would cause a large energy consumption would be an inefficient compressor or a restriction in the sealed system. Read More...
Dan July 10, 2013 for Model Number GB22DKXJB00 Freezer is not getting cold enough. - defrost cycle is working fine (evap coils are frost free) - condensor coils are clean - condensor fan and evaporator fan are working - cold control thermostat is working - no apparent issues with relays or starter (no clicking, no intermittent starting of compressor, compressor hums along fine) - compressor seems to be working hard to cool freezer but temperature only hovers a few degrees below freezing. I've set cold control on max, compressor is on full time. - Line into condenser is hot, line out of condenser is close to room temp. - line back to compressor is slightly cooler than room temp - no sign of coolant leak. I'm stumped. Bad coolant? Poor compression? obstruction in cooling line?
1 Answer Hello Dan. If there is no frost pattern on the evaporator coils, you have an HVAC issue and will need a certified tech to repair the unit. Read More...
