For Whirlpool Dryer Repair Kit – Oem Belt, 4 Rollers & Idler For 27" Models (Part Number: OEM9328815)

1 Answer

Gary, There are not bearings in the rollers and would suggest a little axel grease on the shafts for the rollers and it should correct the noise issue.

The silver tab on the drum was originally installed towards the rear and when I re-installed the drum as the video indicated with the tab towards the front, the dryer started to make a new very mild banging sound. I turned the drum around as it was originally built and that new sound stopped. Also, it appeared that the original source of the squeaking that caused me to purchase the repair kit was a completely frozen idler pulley. I was able to get it off and cleaned the shaft and the new pulley then was able to spin freely. Can the drum be installed in either direction, and if so why is the silver tab on the drum supposed to be towards the front?

1 Answer

Rande, This drum can be installed either way and it should not make a difference in where the tab is at.

Bill, You will want to check the rollers on the unit to ensure that they are moving freely and if they are then this will likely be a weak motor.

Bernie, Make sure the dryer is level, Check and make sure the drum roller shafts are properly tightened and secured to the rear bulkhead, and they are "straight" out and not leaning down or up. And make sure you're installing the nylon " tri ring" retainers and washers on both ends of the shafts. Then check and make sure the idler pulley is installed correctly, and the pulley, belt and drum align properly.

Sam, Make sure you have the correct belt WPW10136934 / WPW10136934, Make sure there are no twists in the belt, the grooves are facing down and against the drum, and hasn't gotten caught on the motor or frame etc. From the front of the machine, the belt on the right side of the drum, should be routed over the top of the idler pulley, place a loop in the belt, press up on the idler pulley arm(the tab, where the spring attaches to the arm may help give you better leverage) but push up on the arm and slip the loop over the motor pulley. Once the belt is installed, raise the front of the drum and turn the drum a couple of revolutions, Slowly, this will align the belt and pulleys. and should "work out" any twists in the belt.
