For Whirlpool Dryer Thermal Cut-Off Kit (Part Number: OEM9282741)

SamH, First check and make sure both breakers/fuses are reset and you have 220 VAC at the wall outlet and the terminal block on the back of the dryer. Then check the door switch circuits and wires. You didn't supply a model number, but the basic wiring diagram indicates; the L2(red wire) is a "direct" link to the element, and terminal block, through the heat switch on the motor, and only affects the heater element. L1(black wire) supplies power to the drum light, and the circuit is completed through the door switch to the neutral leg(whit wire). You'll also need to check for L1 power to the timer. There are no fuses in the L1 circuit(except to the motor) but that wouldn't affect the drun light or power to the timer. Repost your question and include a model number Please, we can review the diagram and make a more proper diagnosis and help direct you to other possibilities. Thanks,

Pegann4u, It would be recommended to replace the thermal fuse as the kit but a restricted vent, even though air is coming out, could cause this issue to occur.

Jeff, From the control board there will be a red wire that comes from the control board that will go to the thermal cutoff, then there will be a red wire white stripe that goes between the thermal fuse and the hi limit thermostat, then from the high limit there will be a red wire that goes to the element.

Ben, It sounds like the contacts in the timer may be sticking and causing the unit to not heat sporadically. This would require the timer to be replaced.

Jane, If the timer is not advancing or advances past the off position then this would be an issue with the timer of the unit.

David, Do you have to turn the unit back on in order to get it running again. If so then the most likely cause for this would be drag on the motor, The rollers and idler pulley would need to be checked to make sure that they are spinning freely with no resistance. If these check ok then check the blower to make sure that there is nothing caught in it. If these things check ok then the motor would be the likely cause for the issue.
