Over time, these components can fail due to electrical issues, lint buildup blocking the exhaust vent, or normal wear and tear. A malfunctioning thermal cut-off kit can result in overheating, which can pose a safety hazard and affect the dryer’s performance.

Symptoms of a bad Thermal Cut-Off Kit include:

Hello Giovanni. Check and make sure the vent is clean. If so, it sounds like the motor is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.

Bear, If the unit will turn on with the start switch but then when you release the switch it shuts off then it would be a issue with the motor. If the unit just will not start at all then you will want to check the door switch on the unit to make sure that the door switch is good. If the door switch checks ok and the thermal fuse has been replaced and still checks ok then you will want to check to make sure that the motor is getting voltage. If the motor is getting power but the unit will not turn on then the motor would be the issue.

Bill for Model Number WED4800XQ0

My Whirlpool electric dryer runs, but only has heat periodically. It works fine for a few loads, and then it runs but it has no heat. After it sits awhile, the heat may come on again for a few loads, and the same thing happens. The heater as well as the thermo cut off and thermo fueses check out OK. I am under the impression that the fuses can either be bad or good. Can any of them be tripped and re-set after the dryer sits for a period of time? This happens on any of the heat or dryer settings. Also the vent is clean, so there is no lint problem. Any ideas what might be the issue? Thanks so much!

Bill, The thermal fuses and thermal cut offs don't normally "reset", they are a "one shot" fuse, once they "blow" they don't reset. If you haven't yet, you'll want to check to make sure there are no loose wiring connections or damaged wires to the heater or thermostats. Then check the timer and control switches wiring. If all's OK, you may want to suspect a defective heater contact inside the timer, making contact only intermittently/occasionally. .

Elaine, The problem is most likely a damaged contact inside the timer WP8299781. Since it does heat on the timed dry high heat setting, it's not a thermal fuse, thermostat or heater element issue.

Tommy, This would not be a issue in which the heater is faulty. You will first want to check the venting of the unit to make sure that the vent is clear. This can cause longer drying times. It also sounds like whatever switch you are jiggling would be faulty and in need of replacement.

George, The first thing to check would be the venting of the unit to ensure that it is clear. If this checks ok then the cycling thermostat would be the most likely cause for the unit to continue to blow the thermal fuse. This would be a issue in which the cycling thermostat is not opening when it reaches temp.

Telegram Sam, With the unit running for 3 to 5 minutes and the thermostats and heater have been replaced then the breaker would be the most likely issue causing this issue.
