For Whirlpool Dryer Thermal Cut-Off Kit (Part Number: OEM9282741)

Skip, You will want to check your venting for obstructions. When checking the venting you want to check from the blower wheel to the outside of your home. A clogged vent will cause the unit to not dry clothes in a timely manner and will cause longer drying times.

Hello Michael. You need to check and see if the rollers, felt seals, or pulley is bad and needs to be replaced. It sounds like it is binding up the tub in the unit.

I bought the Thermal Cut-Off Kit (279816) for the thermal cutoff only. I previously purchased the High Limit Thermostat (3390291) and installed it to no prevail. When the Thermal Cutoff Kit came in the mail I only installed the thermal cutoff and not the thermostat because I had already done that. My question is this: Is there still a need to install the jumper wire? Everything was in place when I removed the old thermostat and put in the new one, same with the thermal cutoff. All the wires were already there and crimped. I also replaced the Heating Element prior to the thermostat. At no time in removing any of the original parts did I have to remove or cut any of the existing wires. I simply installed the new parts with the existing wires already crimped. The dryer is working great now (thanks to your awesome videos) I just want to make sure I did everything correctly. There was a distinct smell when the new heating element came on for the first time but I am attributing that to it being new and burning for the first time. AM Iright about that as well? Thanks for your awesome company andservice. I will definitely be recommending you to my friends. The parts always came on time andwere exactly what I ordered. Your videos are very helpful and guided me step-bystep through the process of installing all the parts. You guys rock! Sincerely, Jimmy B

Hello Jimmy. It sounds like everything is good and well with the unit. There is no need for the jumper unless you need it in your application in which you did not need it.

Salley, If the unit completely shut down and will not restart then you will want to check the thermal fuse on the blower housing for continuity. If there is no continuity then it is faulty and would need to be replaced. You would also want to check to make sure that the vent is clear to the outside of the home.

Hello Mr. L, There is nothing inside the unit to cause a smell like that. Anything in the dryer that can overheat will smell like hot metal or electrical smell. This would have to be something put into the dryer that has caused this. I am not trying to blame you, but realize that different things combined can cause different odors and this could be an instant where two things in the dryer have clashed. If you are painting in the house, this air can be drawn in to cause the odor. Any rags or towels that have been washed that could have had a petroleium based substance on them can cause this. Try putting a considerable amount of white vinegar on a bath towel and run it in the dryer on low heat for a full drying cycle. This will many times eliminate a smell absorbed by the plastic tumblers. If the smell remains, you should check the dryer duct for anything on or inside it. Raccoons will carry things and hide them where they can. If the flapper is damaged on the outside of the house at the dryer duct, this could also be a possibility.

I am currently troubleshooting my Whirlpool electric Ultimate Care II dryer since it will not heat. I believe its the thermal cut-off set that lead to this problem, since the heating elements look fine. But my hi-limit thermostat currently only has 2 wires connected to it -- the orange wire shown in the video is not present. The top wire and the bottom right are connected, but that's it. Pardon my ignorance, but is this fine? Or could this be the source of a problem? Also, the hi-limit thermostat rattles when I move it. No sure if this is indicative of anything either.
