For Whirlpool Dryer Thermal Cut-Off Kit (Part Number: OEM9282741)

Luci for Model Number WED6600VWO

Trying to hook up thermal cut off kit- every video shows an orange wire- my dryer does not have an orange wire- it has two very small diameter red wires coming out of original thermal cut off- cannot disconnect - the kit 270816 used for replacement does not address this. It talks about splicing the orange wire and putting enclosed terminal ends to hook up kit- I'm sure I am not supposed to splice these two small wires- they are permanently connected to original thermal cut off (thermostat?) and bundled with wiring harness- please help!

Hello Luci, Since the high limit thermostat has been re-designed, you will have to combine the wires as described in the video and instruction sheet.

I have replaced the the thermostat and cut off thermal 3 times. Using Part number 279816. The Ohm meters tells me its the top thermostat that's out so the last time that's the only one I replaced cleared all dirt vaccumed out bac of dryer what else could be the problem like I say Last @ times has only been the top thermostat or cut off that's bad but the last time I only replace the top one. what is causing this? thankz any help would be appreciated.

Hello Tessa. If the unit is over heating, it could be the cycling thermostat or a grounded heater. Also, make sure the vent is not kinking causing the issue.

Hello Conni. It sounds like the heater is grounded and is touching metal. You will need to order and replace the heater element on the unit.

I am replacing the Thermal cutoff kit items. The repair video shows a connection using a jumper wire attaching to an orange wire. My dryer does not have an orange wire, but it does have two very thin red wires that go a special plug that connected to the into the old thermostat. Also where the wires plug into the element there are three terminals with that has red on the right, black in the middle, and then the third where I assume the jumper wire attaches. Do I have to be concerned about those two small red wires, and the black wire on the middle terminal? Thanks, Scott

Jj for Model Number Kenmore 80 series electric dryer

I've replaced the high temp thermostat and the thermal fuse per this kit, but my dryer keeps tripping the fuse on my breaker. It's worked fine for the past 8 months and just started happening recently. The dryer will work and run on the tumble dry setting, but as soon as I use heat, it will trip after about 3-4 minutes of use. I can go reset the breaker then run it again on heat for a few minutes till it trips. Also- I've noticed if I run the dryer with heat, but no clothes inside, it will run longer on heat before tripping. Everything I can think of would lead to believe that it's more do a dryer issue than breaker, but I'd like to get a professional opinion. Thanks!

Hello Dave. Some models do not use the orange wire. If you don't have one, you can skip that step. Thanks.

Jim, With the heating element turning on with the unit motor being off then the issue is caused by a stuck switch on the motor which would require the motor to be replaced.

Hello Valeria, This will either be a contact in the timer or the centrifugal switch in the motor has stuck in the closed position. For part numbers and/or a more detailed diagnosis, please list the model number from the units' I.D. tag.
