The Field Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool mixers. This component is integral to the mixer's motor, providing the electromagnetic field necessary for the motor's operation. It ensures that the motor runs smoothly, delivering the consistent power needed to mix ingredients efficiently.

Causes of a bad mixer field assembly can include electrical failures, overheating due to prolonged use, or physical damage from accidental impacts. A malfunctioning field assembly can lead to poor motor performance, affecting the mixer's ability to operate effectively.

Symptoms of a bad field assembly include:

  • The mixer not turning on
  • Intermittent or uneven motor operation
  • Unusual noises coming from the motor area
  • Reduced mixing performance

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and some Kenmore models.

Special Monkey for Model Number K5SS

I have a K5SS, I notice the motor goes on or off sporadically when I switch speeds. When it stalls/shorts out, I notice a very small spark (between wire insulation and slide on connector) on the lower right white wire, on the rear of the control plate. I think it goes to the field coil. I am able to get the motor to turn on again from a stalled state by briefly pushing on this white wire. The wire looks a bit dirty with some black spots. I can't tell if they're dirt or burned. I'm wondering if the wire is bad or the field coil, and or possibly armature, or even the phase control.

Special Monkey, Based on the information provided there is a short, but you will need to inspect the parts and replace the part and or wire with burned marks or shorted components.

Tom, based on the information provided, the speed link W11557271, speed lever 9709278, and control plate spring WP3183680 should be inspected to ensure that they are all connected properly. From there, it is possible that there may be a loose wire connection, or if the brushes were removed, that the brushes may have been replaced in an incorrect position. The power cord can be tested for continuity to ensure that one of the wires hadn't broken (black cord is part number W11545825 and the white cord is part number W11396625).

Larry, The armature would be the most likely cause of the vibration but make sure that you check your brushes to make sure that they are not damaged.

Arkady, The first thing to check is to make sure that the carbon brushes are seated in place correctly. If this checks ok then the motor would be the issue with the unit.

David for Model Number KSM5

I have a kitchen aid KSM5, it has recently stopped running. With the switch in any position except off I can measure 110 volts from the white wire on the right side of the control plate. I believe that this leads to the field assembly. I can measure no voltage entering or leaving the control board and no power from the middle red wire on the control plate. The control plate seems to be functioning correctly. Where should I be able to measure voltage leading to the control board? Is the middle red wire on the control board from the field assembly? How do I confirm that the field assembly is bad? Is it reasonable to think that the field assembly is bad or is there another pat responsible for this?
