This thermal fuse protects your appliance by opening the circuit if temperatures climb beyond a safe limit, helping prevent wiring or control damage. When it blows, the unit may lose all power or stop mid-cycle. What it does:

  • Cuts power when overheating is detected to protect internal components
  • Helps prevent damage from shorted heaters, motors, or wiring faults
  • Common symptoms: no power, won't start, shuts off during operation, no lights/display
  • A blown fuse reads open (no continuity) and must be replaced—it is not resettable
What's included:
  • 1 thermal fuse
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing to avoid electrical shock
  • Access the fuse location per your model's service information; note wire orientation and mounting
  • Replace one-for-one; do not bypass or up-rate the fuse. Identify and correct the overheating cause before restoring power.

Richard, The first thing to check is the power coming to the machine as the only fuse the manufacturer shows in the wiring diagram is in the heater circuit which would not stop the machine from running.

Jonathan, This unit does not use a thermal fuse for the operation of the unit only for the heater. Would suggest checking incoming power supply and make sure that there is not loose or damaged wires. If this checks ok then check wiring from power supply to the timer and if the wiring is good then the timer would be the most likely cause for the issue.

Bill for Model Number DU840SWKX0

Dishwasher wasn't heating the water or drying. Found bad thermal fuse P/N WP3368928. replaced thermal fuse along with heating element (old one was still good but replaced it anyways. Ran great the first time but the next time I noticed it wasn't drying. Checked the thermal fuse and its open again. I can replace it again but not sure why it failed. What is the purpose of the thermal fuse? I have a digital multimeter in series and it doesn't seem to be drawing much current during a full cycle. See to have spikes when I open/close the door. Max spike is 0.91 amps. Any suggestions?

Hello Bill. You will need to replace the timer WP8535372 in the unit. The contact is stuck and keeping the heater on to blow the thermostat.

Diane, The this unit does not have a fuse. Check the breaker to make sure that the breaker did not pop. If there is a GFCI in the same area of the dishwasher then check to make sure it did not pop and if they check ok then the issue will be with the control board.
