For Whirlpool Defrost Heater Assembly (Part Number: OEM18030324)

Rubyjo, We do not have information for Panasonic microwaves but in general when a microwave is not working, the magnetron would need to be checked for resistance. The resistance value should be less than 1 ohm. The capacitor, diode and transformer would also need to be checked.

Hello Roy. It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. Check and see if there is any frost build up on the evaporator coils in the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Vic, The thermostat is clipped to the top portion of the evaporator and will come as part of an assembly with the heater WP61006199. You will want to check the heater and thermostat for continuity and if there is continuity then replace the defrost board 61005988.

Hello Wendell, There are only two wires to each. Since these parts are not polarized, you cannot hook either of them up "backwards". The defrost heater will have a white wire to one end and a yellow on the other. The defrost thermostat will have a white wire that attaches to the defrost heater white wire and a blue wire on the other end that leads back to the temperature control in the fresh food section.

Hiker, To remove the defrost heater, you will first need to remove the shelves and the rear cover in the freezer compartment. Once removed you will need to defrost the coils around the heater and remove the 2 screws at each heater bracket and remove the heaters. Install new heater and reassemble.

Richard for Model Number Jenn-Air JCD2389GES

Opened frig this morning, spelled burnt plastic and temp was up to about 50deg. Freezer section seemed normal temp. Coils looked OK, slight amount of frost. Light bulb in lower section had burst, the housing had melted a bit. We assumed cause of the melt/burst was the door was left open, though we cannot seem to reproduce any condition which would cause the door to remain open. Checked the defrost thermostat/heater: reads normal (short) when cold. We're defrosting the frig now. Suggestions?

Richard, A few things to check, look at the lower hinges and door closer assemblys, make sure they're not worn or "dragging" (you may want to lubricate the assembly with some grease). Check the refrigerator for level in both directions, then raise the front feet 1/4 inch. This will help in closing and sealing the doors. Make sure there is nothing protruding from the door bins or shelves, and make sure the lower vegetable bins are closed completely. It takes very little to keep the doors from closing properly and sealing.
