Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Washer Motor Coupling (Part Number: OEM11885925)

1 Answer

Deborah, With the unit not agitating and the agitator kit replaced then this will be a faulty transmission as the unit would not spin or agitate if the coupler was broken.

Jason, You will want to check the hoses and the drain pump for leaking if there is no leaking from these parts then the tub center post seal would be most likely. Also check to make sure that the pressure hose is not disconnected from the tub.

L. Calesano, The whirring noise could be the motor running, but then the washer should drain regardless of the agitate or spin. If you're sure you have the coupler installed properly, then you need to check the gearcase. Remove the motor and the half of the coupler attached to the motor shaft. Use the remainder of the coupler on the gearcase drive and turn the coupler in the counter clockwise direction, the agitator should oscillate back and forth. Turn the coupler clock wise and the tub should start to spin slowly, and it may be a bit hard to turn. If the washer doesn't agitate, or spin you have a gearcase problem.

Greg, This issue would most likely be caused by a faulty gearcase. The motor will not pump the water out but not spin or agitate.

Bob, You will want to check the brakes of the unit to make sure that they are good. If the brakes are not releasing then the unit will be unable to spin. Also check the drive block for damage and to make sure that the inner tub is not sitting down too far and making contact with the outer tub which would cause this issue as well.

Hello Chris, This sounds like the contacts in the pressure switch (AP2947148) could be the issue.

Larry for Model Number 110.20702990 Kenmore washer

Was spinning weak, so changed out direct drive motor coupler two months ago. All was good until today it stopped spinning or agitating. Pumps, so motor must be running. Pulled off motor and transmission. Clutch and brakes look fine. Then noticed the triangular-shaped coupler on the motor side had slipped down below the fitting on the motor shaft, so it doesn't turn when the motor turns. I must have tapped it down too far when I installed it. How can I get it off without breaking it? Or should I just break it off and try replacing again?

Hello Larry. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the motor coupling 285852A will need to be replaced. If it has went that far onto the shaft, it is rounded out on the unit. Hope this helps.
