For Whirlpool Water Filter Housing (Part Number: OEM18046032)

Adam for Model Number KSSC42QVS01

Hi, I'm trying to remove the old filter housing. After removing the bracket in the front, it looks like the housing should slide right out the front of the fridge.. but I'm getting resistance when I try to pull it out. I believe the resistance is from the water lines that are connected to the back of the housing. I can't access the water lines from the front of the fridge. Do I need to go in through the back to disconnect the water lines? Thank you

Adam, Yes, you should remove the water lines through the back. See this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBm23Gdj4W4

Kitchenaid. I want to replace the water filter housing. This model has a metal panel panel behind the removable grill that block me from pulling out the housing. I can remove the screws that hold the housing but the the opening is too small to remove the housing. The side by side doors mount over the metal panel. When I open the lower back panel there also no access to the housing. Is the solution to remove the doors to remove the panel to get to the housing? TIA

Ed, Take the water lines lose at the water valve, remove the screws and it will slide out the front of the refrigerator. (Taking the doors off will not help).

Bill for Model Number 106.44422602

I was experiencing water valve chatter likely caused by the filter housing. When chattering occurred, I removed & re-seated the filter. After several re-seats, the chattering is gone and the water flow is strong with the filter installed. My question: is the problem fixed and the filter housing is now good or is the filter being bypassed even though it is installed? I want to make sure water is going thru the filter and not bypassing it somehow. Thanks.

1 Answer

Bill, while it is likely that reseating the filter corrected the issue properly, we would not be able to identify if the bypass section of the filter housing WPW10121140 has failed in the bypass position.

Symptoms indicate I need to replace my water filter housing. (Hammering noise than diminished stream. Inside of unit shows water/leakage and I already tried 2 new fitlers with same result). I looked up installation on youtube and reviewed your video but they all show a access that is different than my model fridge. Specifically my fridge does not have the wire metal (support arm to the housing) accessible from the front. It looks like Can you direct me to a video of my model before I order and start this process? Thank you!

Hello Ali, replacing the water filter housing should correct the problem you are describing, unfortunately, we do not have a video showing this exact part replacement. You can use this repair video link as a general guide, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvMsxF20IT4.

Hello Jay, the water filter housing is replaced by accessing it both from the front and rear of the cabinet, at the rear the water valve may need to be unmounted to do the repair.

Hello Violeta. You will pull off the back panel door and remove an electrical part by the water collection tray (there's only one, and it's screwed on), you can remove the housing that way (provided you remove the screws at the front of the fridge.)

George, If water is spraying out when changing filter then would need to replace the filter housing. If there is just a few drips of water it would not cause any issue.

Jim, Where the water tube goes into the water filter housing there will be a ring around the filter housing, push this ring in and then while pushing it in pull the hose out.
