Hello Rusty, Since the water valve has no spring inside it to close it, the only thing that closes it is the water pressure that is applied to it. If the water pressure is sufficient, you may have a sticking set of contacts inside the icemaker assembly. There is no way to "test" a water valve to see if it is physically opening and closing short of applying water pressure to it and see if it passes water and closes after doing so when the voltage is removed from the coil.

Hello Gene. If the cubes are hollow, you will need to check the temp in the freezer and make sure it is 0 to 5°. If not, you get hollow cubes. Thanks.

Hello Russell. Make sure the freezer is between 0° and 5°. You need to check and see if there is power going to the water valve when the icemaker cycles. If so, replace the water valve on the unit. If not, or the icemaker does not cycle, you will need to replace the icemaker on the unit. Also, check and make sure the fill tube on the unit is not frozen and clogged. If so, replace the water valve and thaw out the fill tube. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

RLB, If you have a water filter in your unit or an inline water filter on the back of the unit then you will want to make sure that it is good. Otherwise the water valve may not be opening all the way.

Mike, To test the water valve, you will want to put a jumper wire in the terminals of the icemaker labeled T and H. Let the icemaker start cycling and once it clicks a second time then pull the jumper wire out and go to the back of the unit and check for voltage on the water valve. The valve should receive 120 vac when the icemaker gets to the point where it calls for water. If there is 120 vac then you will also want to check to make sure that the fill tube is not frozen. If the fill tube is or is not frozen then the valve would need to be replaced.

Hello John, While it is very helpful to have the model number so the model can be looked up and no guesses have to be posted, I would guess that the water valve is in the rear since this is the most common place for it to be mounted. If you still cannot find it, please re-post with the model number so we can look it up and tell you exactly where to locate it. There are no refrigerators that have the water valve in the ice maker.
