Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Kit, Overload/Relay (Part Number: OEM12028989)

1 Answer

Hello Jerry, If the compressor is still not starting, it is locked and will have to be replaced. If it is starting and the unit is not cooling and the compressor is getting hot, this is an indication of a sealed system restriction and the filter/drier and cap tube will require attention. This will require a Freon authorized technician to diagnose and repair the issue.

Hello Donna. Blue goes to the overload. Orange to number 2 on relay and white to number 3. As for the 2 black wires, based on the wiring diagram they should not be going to the compressor..

John for Model Number Jcd2389geb series 19

My fridge compressor has the blue wire on bottom orange on top right and white on top left if I wire using the directions to replace overload/start device the jumper wire plugs into the top left but my orange wire is the one with the 3/16 terminal which would make it change to the top left not the top right is that right? The top left terminal is also marked with an n which usually means neutral which is white the new kit # is (AP4009660).

Hello John, The small white device is the overload. The Blue wire will connect to this device. The orange wire will connect to the terminal labeled number 2 on the start relay, (small dark brown device). The white wire will connect to the number 3 terminal on the start relay. If you look closely at this configuration, the capacitor is actually jumped from the number 2 terminal to the number 3 terminal. You should realize that the wire colors are determined by the engineers. This means that white is not necessarily going to be neutral. In this case, the white wire is actually one lead of the run capacitor and the orange wire is the neutral.

Jackson, The blue wire will connect to the Overload. The white wire coming off the capacitor will have the small jumper wire installed on it and go to the left side of the start relay. The orange wire coming off the run capacitor will go to the right side of the relay. We do not have pictorial instructions for this part.
